Beyond the classroom

Teachers are individuals with high moral ethics. Beyond the classroom, they are leader figures in society. They model both in the classroom and outside of school premises. During school hours, the teachers act as parents and educators because the students are now their priority so they teach them and look after their safety and moral behavior as well, that's why pupils are advised to always take permission from their teachers before they carry on with any move.

If a teacher is saddled with the responsibility to groan children not just academically, then I strongly believe that the role of a teacher, does not necessarily end or is limited only between the four corners of the classroom and its environs but transit outside school hours. However his or her authority is limited because the children are now under the care of their parents and not the school authority. If a teacher finds his students in a condescending manner at the close of school hours, they are right to verbally speak to the child, report the issues to the parents and wait for their instructions as responsible adults should do and not act like a disciplinary master. If anything should go wrong in the process of trying to discipline the child, they will dance to the beating of the drum alone and moreover it does not speak well about their profession.

During my early school days, it was so unfortunate that my form teacher and I were both living in the same compound. My mom would not hesitate to report my mischief to him and aside from that, myself and siblings were always careful not to cross paths with him or be involved in any sort of environmental disturbance. One funny thing about my form teacher was that every time we were reported to him, he has never for one day asked us to serve even the easiest punishment at home. He understood his assignment and respected his profession. We serve our punishment in school and come back home like nothing happened. But whenever we are bullied in his presence outside school hours he speaks in our defense and that's how it should be.

Also, I have witnessed incidents in school where a student collapsed and was immediately administered first aid yet the school spoke in the defense of the teacher when the parents came to complain. Supposing it happened at home, there would be no covering for him and worst he might end up losing his source of income or turned into a police case cause some parents can go any length for their children. So despite the fact teachers are role models and are given authority over the pupils during work hours it is advisable they trade with caution when it is closing hours to avoid stories that touch the heart.
