We Enjoyed the Old Days Because We Had No Choice

The Millennials and Gen Z are probably the luckiest generations because we got to experience life before technology and also life after technology became a major part of the world.

As a millennial, I have experienced both sides, and honestly? I will choose this era with technology any day over life without it.

I know many people try to comfort themselves by saying life before the internet and technology was better, but I believe that is mostly nostalgia. Trust me, if most people were sent back to those days after experiencing modern life, they would miss this era badly and regret ever saying the past was better.

Back in the early 2000s, I lived alone with my sister in a newly developing area. Our parents worked in the city and only came around once in a while, mostly on weekends.

We couldn’t even reach my dad whenever we wanted because phones were expensive back then. Unlike today, when even a 7-year-old can own a phone, communication was difficult and limited. I hated that feeling of not being able to talk to my parents anytime I wanted.

Life back then was honestly tough. Our only source of entertainment was the television[don't forget TV is also Technology], and sometimes NEPA would not bring light for days. We stayed most of the time indoors because the environment was still bushy, and we were scared of wild animals outside.

Things changed a little when my mum came to stay with us after my sister left for school. My mum was fearless. She created a small path behind the house that connected to another street, and through that path, I started making friends and spending more time outside.

No lies, I enjoyed life without technology, but that was only because technology did not exist around us then. We can’t miss what we never had.

But if I were to go back in time now after experiencing life with technology, I would be extremely frustrated.

Here are my reasons:

Work aspect:

Life has gone beyond farming, fishing, blacksmithing, and the kind of hard labor our forefathers did. Today, people can work remotely and earn money without standing under the hot sun all day. I honestly cannot sacrifice this life just to go back to endless physical struggle to survive.

Connection and knowledge:

We are far more informed now. We know what is happening around us, in our country, and even across the world, all thanks to technology and social media.

I do not want to go back to an era where the only news I know is what happens on my street or in my neighborhood. That life was too limited.

Today, we can connect with people from different countries and cultures without leaving our homes. We learn about other tribes, traditions, and lifestyles through our phones.

Technology may have its disadvantages, but one thing is certain: it has made life easier, faster, and more connected

Their is not doubt on it that when we use to the technology it's very hard to live without it so someone experienced it they will definitely love the current era.
But if we think deeply people were having more time for themselves and for their family in past when they do not have the technology and different mode of entertainment, this is what make me more inclined towards the past.

How can people have more time for their family when they are out there working in the farm? I think this era made it possible to have more time with our family with remote jobs.... I am always indoor and I am part of my baby journey as he grows...

Back then even the smallest phone was untouchable but thanks to technology today,it is now rampant and we can afford them comfortably.

Technology has advanced so many things.

Do you remember when SIM cards were sold at over #30k? Phones weren’t rampant as they are today. I also enjoyed life before and after technology, and I will choose this era over again. We are now in an informed era where we can access news wherever we are and within a twinkle of the eye.
Life is made easier today compared to then.

I can remember using my dad's phone to play snake game and it's funny how I found it fun as a child 🤣. I might not have experienced much, but I can imagine how life was really boring then , especially for young youths, how did they even distract themselves from reality without a smart phone🤣?
I will just get depressed.

Communication was so uneasy, but all it takes now is having data to send messages and call those in different parts of the world. Thank God for growth.
