Healthy tax is a good way to save the lives of humans. The rate at which hard drugs and other unhealthy things are being consumed is at a high level, and many people's life spans have been reduced...
It is a no-brainer why some people develop internal organ failure, like kidney, liver, and heart problems, most of the time is because of the things they consume, but still others have not learn from their story... They care more about the short-term awesome feeling derived from taking hard drugs.
In 2022, I knew a guy who was dependent on hard drugs; the kind he took was being sold for 4000 Naira. He bought it every day until he could no longer afford it again, and whenever he doesn't take it, he feels miserable, and that pushed him to start begging people for money just to buy the hard drug... We have many people who are in the same situation as him, while some were lucky to be freed from the addiction, others ain't so lucky and they end up going crazy. It is not all the mad people roaming on the street that is a result of Voodoo, it is hard drugs that put some in such a bad state.
Why are some of these drugs so cheap that a poor man can afford to take them daily? Let us take cocaine, for instance, it has been banned in most countries, and the scarcity made it expensive, so a common man can't afford it, hence why majority of people at least in my country are not taking it but the likes of weed, cigarette and other names which I do not know are being abused on daily basis.
Cheap things attract a lot of customers, and this is why when some of these alcoholic drinks' price was increased, a lot of people stopped taking them because they could not afford them, even though it is bad news for them, but also is a blessing in disguise because it helps to keep them healthy... If only the government can keep up with this healthy tax and increase it on other harmful substances that people are taking, they would be forced to reduce their intake of it, and at a point, if the manufacturers are not making much sales, they would pack up!.
I am not a fan of alcoholic drinks, but I take them once in a blue moon, especially during occasions or special days. The last time I took a black bullet drink was last year before the price doubled... The moment I heard the price had increased from 600 to 1200 Naira was the last time I bought it. There are a few people whose reason for not buying it is due to the price increase as well, and it is a good thing!. I fear for the lives of our youth because of how they consume these harmful substances, they might be fine for now, but it will tell on their body in the future...
If the government wants to increase the tax imposed on these products, they should do it because as the price of the products increases, the demand for them decreases. But they should also use the tax for the right thing rather than embezzle it to fulfill their selfish desire.

I think this is a great approach. At least increase the barrier for access of this harmful substances. I'm guessing there are some people higher up who will intentionally do what they can to reduce the price for massive distribution, this is how they'll make more money albeit at the cost of the general population getting sicker over time.
Well, yes, it's not like that everywhere. What people want, they will get.
Please vote for the new Ecency Proposal.
I agree that increasing taxes on harmful substances can reduce consumption and save lives. However, it is essential that the government uses this revenue responsibly and directs it toward public health. Awareness efforts must also accompany these measures
Unfortunately, they embezzle most of the money collected from taxes in my country.
I also have the similar thoughts. I think high taxes may not stop the people consuming those products but they will be forced to reduce the amount of consuming as they can't spend so much money on those products.
yes, their addiction may not allow them to stop it totally, but they will reduce the intake...
I wonder why there's inflation on food items, but cigarettes, beers, and other alcoholic drinks remain the same🤔
Let there be a tax on those items, and let's see if the consumption will not reduce 🤷
lol... They know what they are doing, they know we cant do without food, even if they increase the price of the food we consume times 10, we will still buy it.

Hmm
You have a point here
Instead, they should channel that energy into harmful substances
This is nice!
but I doubt they have any plans towards it
That's our country ooo, I hope they can do better.
