Tipping is not bad due to what people are going through, especially in my country, so I like to tip a lot but it becomes an issue when those workers become entitled to the tips.
It reminds me of a restaurant I used to go to in my former area to buy food and snacks, the first time I went there, the security guy greeted me and with his gesture, I figured out what he wanted and I didn't hesitate to give it to him, the second time I went there again, he directly asked for tips which I gave him again and he repeats the same thing the third time and by that time, I was already finding it annoying, I can't be spending that much in the restaurant and still be keeping security tip aside, so I didn't give him the third time and I stopped giving him tips because I realized that was the same way he demands tips from most of the other customers...
The country is hard but that doesn't mean we should lose our self-respect, If I were in his position, I wouldn't demand tips from customers but wouldn't reject either if they extend that hand, this is how it should be! don't ask for tips, the best tip is the one that comes from the heart... I mean when the giver willingly gives it to you not by you demanding for it.
Instead of demanding tips, I think it is better to render good services to people that will melt their hearts and make them want to tip you for a job well done, not necessarily hard labor, it could be in the form of warm greetings as for the security men, it could be doing the work they give to you fast... It works on most people.
I had a crazy experience earlier this month, We have rules that govern how students must dress, what to wear, and what not to... On that fateful day, I was stopped by one of the security men and he started rambling, about the school rules blah blah, when he mentioned school rules, I asked if I broke any rules and he said no, I asked why he stopped me then, he was like he like my dressing and I should drop something, Ok maybe they are not being paid well or they have more mouth to feed, this is me giving an excuse on his behalf but there are better ways of approach and not you stopping me telling me about school rules, I made that clear to him and said next time just ask me to give me you something instead of that approach and I gave him something...
The main problem with tips is just that in some important places, only tippers are attended to and in fact in some places, tipping is mandatory if you want to get what you went there for or you want them to attend to you fast which does not sound good because it is a bad habit eating deep into the system.

Many people have seen tipping as their right and you must give them if you ever need something. Of course, this shouldn't be a mandatory thing but people have made it so. I only tip if I am led to and if I appreciate your services but I wouldn't like it if someone turns it into an entitlement thing.
