More Churches, Fewer Factories : Should Churches pay Tax ?

Gone are the days when people were called by the Creator before they served Him. Well, this is what I heard, not that there is evidence that God really called anybody.

Anyone can wake up any day and claim that he was called by God to serve Him and lead His people. Anyone can come up with a fake story of how he started his ministry or how he was forced to start.

It is only the ignorant who would believe everything they hear, because humans can be so deceptive.

Here in my country, it baffles me that we have more churches than companies and factories. No street is spared. Churches are everywhere, and even new sites and developing areas are not exempted, because people have started building churches there too. I am surprised at how we can see more than five churches on one street, and I need no soothsayer to tell me that churches have become a lucrative business in my country. Hence, people are rushing into it.

As long as you can speak good English, have money to build a small building, and can preach and pray, you are good to go. This is one of the reasons that made me stop going to church, because nowadays, we have many fake prophets and pastors, and we do not know who is who.

I know God exists, and I would prefer to form my own church in my house with my family rather than go and worship with fake people who are into it for money but pretend they are doing it for God.

The last church I attended, I was shocked when the pastor threw a curse, saying that if you were getting paid well and refused to pay your tithe, may God take away that source of income. I was even more shocked that some people were saying Amen to such a prayer. Do they not listen to what the pastor is saying, or do they fully trust him to the point that they believe whatever he says is right, without using their brains to decipher what he has just said?

If tithes, offerings, and donations are the pillars on which churches are built today, why cannot they be taxed too? They are earning a lot of money, but what is the money being used for? To build more churches, and what else?

Aside from building more churches, the rest of the money goes into the pockets of the leaders and their cohorts.

Assuming they channelled the money into other useful places, then maybe they could have been exempted from tax. But here and there, I hear that they have private jets and so on. We have more churches than places of work, and this is one more reason why Africa is not growing, as people have been caged into believing that prayer solves every problem.

It pisses me off a great deal when people say we should pray for certain things that require physical intervention. We are just so gullible in this country, but I am awakened.

I am not going to stress about their taxes either, because the government itself is useless. When they collect such taxes, they end up embezzling the money too. So, what is the essence?
