Guidance over privacy: Raising safe and responsible children

One of the worst mistakes parents can make is giving their kids privacy! What business do children really have with privacy? According to the constitution, any child under 18 years of age is still under the supervision of their parents and must be guided properly.

Even though a lot of things have changed regarding the Age bracket that needs surveillance due to the country's economy and children fighting to become independent at a young age, there are still certain age bracket that requires no form of privacy from their parents. Those are the children who fall within 0 to 12 years old.

We all knew what we did at our tender age, and most of us won't want our children to do the same thing because they may not be as lucky as us to be able to free themselves from such things.

One of the things I did wrong during my childhood age was when I slot in a porn disk into my Dad's Dvd while he was away, unfortunately for me, Nepa took the light while I was watching it, Panic set in cos I knew if my Dad was to find such a disk in the Dvd when he comes back, I am in big trouble, so what I did was pack the Dvd, went to a nearby playstation center, plugged it in there and removed the disc before he came back. The fear of getting caught that day stopped me from trying it again.

Now Imagine If I had my privacy then, my own personal room, personal DVD and TV, and other stuff that makes life interesting for kids without my parents burging me, no doubt that I would have been addicted to porn, and I can't say where that would lead me, but definitely not a good place.

I read some comments on TikTok where adults were talking about things they did with their cousins when they were young. You need to read about the nasty intimacy they had with their cousins, which I believe is due to too much freedom and privacy from their parents.

These things I mentioned and some others that I won't be able to mention in this post are what further strengthen my resolution that my kids won't have any privacy until I am sure they know their right from wrong and that they also have self-control to withstand temptation and can not be easily influenced by their peers.

Life during my time was not as good as now. We are now in the Tech Era, where phones and the internet are accessible. Giving a child privacy with a phone and access to the internet will ruin the child's life, cos most social media platforms now promote adult content. You can't scroll 5 times without seeing something seductive, and once our kids start consuming such content, it won't take long before they feel like practicing it.

As for me, no form of privacy for my kids, but this doesn't mean I will take their freedom away. I will monitor them closely without them having an idea, and I will only come in when necessary, which is when I see them following the wrong path.

Most Importantly, we need not to be too strict with our kids because in the end, they will find a way to do certain things when we are not there with them and we can't always be around them, we have work to do and they go to school, so there is always a safe space for them to do things they want to do, but once we create that bond with them, they will feel free to discuss certain things with us and we can advise them on it.
