I admire people who love to read.

I used to be a reader, and what made me love reading books was when I was checking out my dad's book collection, which consisted mainly of Yoruba newspapers and old Yoruba stories. When I say old stories, I mean stories written in the 90s.
You must be wondering why I love reading newspaper, it is not actually the newspaper I was interested in but there is a page in the newspaper were a story is written, it is about a man who celebrated his 50th birthday and now sharing his life escapades, at his early age, he used to love sex alot and then he shared those stories of how he used to get intimate with his neighbour, his sugar mummies, his aunties on the street and so on, so I read it all and when I was done with the old newspaper, I started waiting on the new ones yet to come out so I can read the other episodes...
The old stories I mentioned were in a magazine, that was when I read about Timi Olofaina [ Timi the fire arrow wielder] and Jimi, I also read about a man who loved rinking palmwine and his life story, I miss all these stories, and if I can lay my hands on them again, I would be so happy to read them all over again because they are just so interesting.

It was also during that time that I read a Yoruba novel titled Ogboju Ode ninu Igbo Irunmole. I spent weeks reading this book; it was so interesting that I also read it at night just so I could finish it in time. After I was done with that, I read Part 2 Igbo Olodumare, and that was also very interesting; those are the kind of books I can read and not feel bored because each page is interesting.
All this happened in the year 2009, and it continues when I became a teacher. I still read the literature books of my pupils, but I no longer crave reading stories or novels on my own unless it is necessary.
Until 2022, when I was discussing with my babe and I was telling her how I love reading Yoruba story books, especially the ones written by D.O Fagunwa, and she said they still see them in Ibadan, I was happy and told her to bring some copies for me when she goes home, and luckily she was able to get them!.
She got me 5 copies, as seen in the picture I used, I don't know where I kept the last one because I lost interest when I realized some part were missing, the book was not as full as the one I read back then, so that kinda made me not check the rest till now but who knows, maybe I will pick them up one day if I feel bored and read them again even though some parts won't be there.

Sometimes when I read, the book feels even more interesting than watching a movie. Like when I read Rider Haggard's King Solomon's Mines and it's sequel. Or when I read novels written by Chinua Achebe. Or The Godfather, Etc. Stories these days have reduced in quality. So I'm still hooked to stories written by the older generation of writters. You are right, reading these stories sometimes feels like you're eating a delicious meal, but with your mind instead of your mouth.

Like ehnnn all these Yoruba novels
I can't believe they are still around but just like you said they won't be full like the ones we read back then.
So painful we couldn't keep those books till now

I guess with time our mentalities are changing. The reader of physical book decreasing.
For me, it's usually the visuals that I look at with newspapers, which then interests me with their stories. I used to read magazines of overseas culture when I had access to it when I visited a warehouse that my uncle worked in. Nowadays, fictional books are easier to read for me, as there's a story of sorts to keep me interested.
