Anonymous but Not Invisible

It is possible to be anonymous to a certain extent, as long as people with the right resources are not looking for us.

As a new internet user, I can decide to use a fake name or nickname, avoid posting pictures to hide my identity, and use a VPN to hide my location. This can help hide me from regular internet users who do not have much interest in knowing who I really am.

Being anonymous is like using a mask at a party. No one will be able to identify you at a glance, but if someone really wants to know who you are, all they need to do is monitor you. Your clothes, wristwatch, shoes, marks on your hand or any visible part of your body, your voice, or other unique traits can be used to identify you. Even though it may take time, you could eventually be exposed.

So when people with strong resources are looking for you, for example, agencies like the EFCC or FBI, anonymity may not save you. If they are determined, you can still be tracked and found.

To answer the Hive Learners' question, it is not possible to be completely invisible in this digital age unless a person stops using modern technology. However, it is possible to be anonymous, to hide behind a keyboard without people knowing who you truly are.

A good example is a blog in my country called Gistlover. Many people wonder who is behind the blog because the owner posts a lot of controversial content that sometimes makes the victims try to uncover the person’s identity. But till today, there have only been rumours and guesses about who runs the blog.

Since the person is not directly involved in any crime, law enforcement agencies like the CID have no reason to hunt him or her. Only citizens who feel affected by the blog try to find out who is behind it. It may be difficult for them to discover the person’s identity, but it is not impossible if they are truly determined. They would just need to spend their own money and hire professionals who specialize in tracking anonymous individuals.

Neoxian is another example of someone anonymous. He is anonymous on the Hive platform. Citizens of his city and members of other Hive-related Discord servers do not know where he lives, nor has he revealed anything that could allow people to recognize him or trace his location.

Despite this, his reputation still speaks for him. He has built a strong profile for himself on the Hive platform, and people trust him. This proves that it is possible to remain anonymous while still earning credibility and respect online.

I have seen some accounts on TikTok that create AI-animated stories, and they have many followers. They are only known by their niche. They have never posted their faces or shared their location, and people are not curious about their identity because they are in love with their content.

This shows that being anonymous is possible, as long as the person does not do anything that would make people with strong resources try to track them down. It is possible to be anonymous, but it is not always possible to stay hidden if people become truly curious and determined to find out who the person is, and I do not mean ordinary people, but those with the right resources.
