HEALTH IS WEALTH

Sometimes people go through a lot in their place of work, family and also in their personal life. And we pay less attention to such situations where it comes to Africa.

I know that this place is not a place for only Africans, but I will love to look at things from the African man perspective. People here don't really know what it means for one to be going through a mental health issues. They only know about different sicknesses like headache, malaria, High blood pressure, low blood pressure, heart related deases and what have you. Aside these ones that they are used to, anything like mental health related issues is not a problem for them.

WORKING WITH MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES

Because of what I have stated above, most people go on and on working without given any thoughts about their mental health. As long as that person can still walk around and do stuffs, then he or she can't talk about mental health problems even when there is one.

A MENTAL HEALTH WEEK.

I really support this idea despite the fact that some people will misuse it. There are still some people who will benefit massively from that. Such week will enable the people having such problems check on themselves very well and have enough rest. I had a friend and a brother who died last year and his death is related to this particular issue we are talking about today. He was working as a teacher in a private school, the work load on him was too much. He was a mathematics teacher and he takes up to three different classes everyday. That means that there will be three lesson plans everyday to meet up with what he needs to teach the children. He did not stop there. I believe that the salary was not enough for him because he have a wife and four wonderful children. He took up home lessons which he needs to attend to every day. One day while he was still going about his work, he had a heart attack and he slumped. He was rushed to the hospital and was treated. After some months he went back to the same work again and continued. He later died of the same problem because there was never a time this man took to go and check his mental health. He was just working and working and working and there was no rest for him until he died two years ago. I felt for him because the burden was too much and he was doing all of that to provide for his family. Today he is no more and the family is surviving without him. That is our problem here in Africa

IT WILL WORK

I know that it will work if we pay more attention to our mental health so that it will also reduce the number of people who slump and die everyday. Rest when you need to.

In conclusion, I believe that we all have one life to live and we need to create more time what matters in our lito avoid had I known.

I've heard of about three cases of people slumping and dying in the last two months. And what their colleagues often say is that, "nothing is wrong with them o, they weren't sick.."

These things really need attention. And I believe the workplaces can do better by giving off days same way they give sick leave.
