Arise O Compatriots…

Nigeria has been blessed with a lot of natural resources, Nigeria has also been blessed with peace and unity, everyone loved each other as one and everything was so much in order. Though there will always be complaints from angles and you see people rant about market prices and other things, that doesn’t mean they are having an extremely hard time.

Time flew and then the more the years kept counting and adding up, the more we kept saying Nigeria would be better, the more we anticipated, the better days we envisioned together started to turn around and instead of things getting better for everyone, I would say it just got better for some set of people instead.

Some sections have it good while some have it the other way. I guess it's part of life. But some don't want that luxury life, all they wanted was peace and joy in the little things.

I remember a time when I was younger when 500 naira was the highest currency and so scarce. If you should have it with you then you are holding something worth feeding a family for months on you. Those days when we can buy as much with the lowest currency as possible.

I watched a TikTok skit recently where some guys got our 5 Naira notes, placed them on the floor in front of them, and bid it some farewell respect, or should I call it last respect? This means our valuable 5 naira notes of the past are of no use anymore in this era. Not a century yet, but it lost all of its value.

The 5 naira notes back then would get us biscuits, sweets, chewing gums, sachet milk, and many more things. But now even the 50 naira notes can't get a biscuit worth it anymore.

One thing I realize about the country’s currency is that inflation dug deep into our economy and disrupted everything that has value. People are still living fine and grateful to be a citizens of the country but it's so sad that they are not fully pledged to the so-called nation.

When you ask anyone around you in the country about being opportune to travel out of the country and never come back, out of 100 percent you might hardly see 10% willing to wait in the country. We are already brainwashed with the mindset of making it big abroad and then coming back to the country. Only if we could gather that energy and build our country wouldn't people have reason to migrate into the country.

Nigeria in the past was known as a country where people from different parts of the world migrated, the whites and other African countries would want to experience the natural resources we are blessed with in the country. There was a time when Ghanaians and other neighboring African countries were all over Nigeria. But now, the reverse is the case. You rather meet Nigerians spread all over other neighboring countries.

We all have the belief and mindset that Nigeria will be better and that is dependent on each individual, their locality, the state, and then the country as a whole. Rome wasn’t built in a day, but not with the mindset Nigerians have with their country.

This is my response to the HIVE LEARNERS weekly prompt in hive learners community for the Week 152 Edition 2 and the topic to be discussed is A LITTLE HISTORY

I believe that many aspects of Nigeria are similar to Brazil. Countries that have incredible potential but suffer from corruption.
