Inspiration struck! Helped by a subtle suggestion by a fellow Hivian and the blizzard that just hit the northern part of NY state. The situation up there was / is really bad. While the people living up there are kind of used to snow and cold winters, this one apparently was the worst blizzard in 50 years! So, on the one hand, I am feeling a little bad that I am sharing these pictures now but on the other hand - here goes...
These photos are for #WednesdayWalk with @tattoodjay and it is a walk that I took almost exactly three years ago. It started with a view out of the kitchen window. We have this beautiful, faceted glass star hanging in it, and depending on how the light falls on it, it shimmers in all different colors.
In the background, you can see the trees in our driveway covered in ice.
Very cautiously I stepped outside, careful to not use our stairs and porch but rather the garage door as everything was covered in thick ice. It was early so even the sidewalk was still icy and I'm happy that I didn't slip and fall.
Here are some close-ups from our poor plants around the houses. All covered in very thick ice. It looked very beautiful but somehow also surreal. Imagine those little berries, full of life one day and then - frozen over and still looking alive.
After that little venture outside and around the block I felt ready to brave the roads. Well, to be honest, it was a few hours later and by that time the roads were totally fine. As you can see we didn't get any snow, just ice.
I drove the five minutes to our local park where I like to go jogging in summer. Our river is dammed there and oftentimes it makes for wonderful reflection photos which I love as most of you might know.
Just looking at the photos reminds me of how blindingly bright it was. Some of the pictures remind me of infrared photos but they aren't. It was just a beautiful, clear and sunny winter day and the sun reflected off of all that ice like crazy - I may or may not have worn my sunnies 😎.
Of course, I couldn't resist taking a few more close-ups. That top right one, if you click on it you will see the veins in that red leaf - frozen in time. And again the different berries. That top photo on the left is cropped in because it reminds me of a bee or butterfly but it is just a couple of berries covered in ice.
Did I mention that I am a sucker for bokeh? If you haven't figured that out yet looking through the previous photos - here is one more. Also, isn't it weird how this bush has yellow and red berries all over at the same time?
In any case, bokeh - glistening off the icy trees in the background almost obscuring the icy, in-focus berries on the left.
And with that - stay warm, always, and have a great rest of your day!
Cheers,
(Ocean)Bee
These are such great photos. Beautiful country. I love when everything is covered in ice in the morning. So beautiful!
Right?! Yeah, that morning / day was crazy pretty.
You had dropped the word bokeh on another one of my posts and I thought it was something related to food or something lmao. I just looked it up and now I know what it is and means and that’s one of my favorite things! I love blurring the background on photos with my DSLR, makes for some interesting stuff!
I love an ice storm like that! It’s indeed dangerous to walk around but damn the pictures are beautiful! I had some sitting around somewhere that I may post if I can find which SD card they are on lol we’ve collected a few different ones over the years and now have quite a bit.
Some beautiful shots you've got here!
Yes!! Bokeh is the icing on the cake! So maybe it is food related after all - LOL. Once you go looking for it you know that you're hooked on photography.
Even though I don't photograph nearly as much anymore as I used to, I cannot resist certain opportunities.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting, I appreciate it.
Great photos. Brrrr.
Thank you, Steve. Indeed - cold, too cold for my taste but - it can make for nice photos.
I appreciate that you went out there for us! Spread plenty of salt! Lol

Oh my, so much ice! That's just absolutely beautiful!
Did you crack some?
And yes... very bokehlicious! :D
Hey, my fellow bokeh-lover! I knew bokehlicious is a word, confirmed.
Only veeery little, I didn't want to disturb the beauty too much.
Thank you for qurating 😍

Ohh yeah upstate NY got hit so bad I do feel for the people there especially those who lost family or friends to the storm
Ohh that does look s bitterly cold and a good idea to avoid the steps with all that ice, glad you didnt fall but you did get such amazing shots, love the ice build up on the plants
Thanks for joining the Wednesday, I always love seeing all the walks shared from around the world, its like a virtual world tour
So bad up there... glad that we got only rain at first and then -15C during the day but no snow.
I really can't resist going out and taking photos when I see this kind of ice. Or the first snow. But that hasn't happened this season yet, only some flurries. Did you get any snow yet?
NO snow here yet either, like you just flurries
