When we spill our coffee | The Coffee Shop Prompt Week 185 [EN-ES]

Hello, coffee lovers!

This week, @cinnccf prompts us to talk about a time we experienced a minor mishap at a coffee shop—a mistake, a spill, a mix-up—that ended up being the most memorable part of the visit.

Things like this have happened to me. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has experienced something of the sort.

The story I’m sharing today began at La Luna Naranja, a cultural center with a café that serves a strong espresso—one that stands out for its quality (both in flavor and aroma), as well as for its high price tag.

When I realized I would be staying at this spot longer than expected, I had to change my plans. The power went out, but fortunately, I was able to calmly enjoy that first cup of coffee.

I was waiting for someone and wanted another drink, so I decided to go elsewhere to see if I’d have better luck with the electricity.

I ventured over to Comic Coffee to verify something a friend had told me. Sadly, she was right; it turns out there is now an exorbitant fee just to enter one of the café's decorated rooms—even without ordering anything. Just imagine: the average salary for a professional in Cuba hovers around 6,000 pesos, yet at Comic Coffee, they charge you 500 pesos merely to sit at a table. I won't even go into the cost of the coffee and its various options—so as not to digress further—but I imagine you get the picture.

As I always try to do, I took a calm breath, smiled, and set out to put aside anything that might make us uncomfortable. I focused on once again enjoying the café's distinctive design and the unique flavor of the coffee I had ordered.

Even though I had already seen these designs, there is no doubt that they are extremely appealing. Vivid colors, dynamic strokes, and a painting technique that speaks to the artist's skill make for a pleasant experience.

It was here that the unexpected happened. While I was alone in the room, I was surprised by the arrival of someone special. As it turned out, just as I was about to greet them, I spilled my cup of coffee on the table.

I was embarrassed by the incident, but fortunately, there were no serious consequences. It wasn't a huge spill; the coffee didn't even reach the floor, and—most importantly—it didn't stain the outfit I was wearing that night. That had happened to me once before, and let me assure you, it is not a pleasant experience.

Every face on the wall seemed to be watching us. Add to that the fact that the power went out in the café, too... Once I’d managed to clean up the mess, I smiled at them and said goodbye.

The night was still young. Our steps then led us to another café...

Now, imagine starting the evening and finding ourselves at La Vitrola with another cup of coffee, in search of the poetry the world offers us—with its power to leave us hanging from the moon.

Esta semana @cinnccf nos provoca hablar sobre alguna ocasión en la que pudimos vivenciar un pequeño contratiempo en una cafetería —un error, un derrame, una confusión— que se convirtió en lo más memorable de la visita.

Hechos como estos me han ocurrido. Estoy seguro de no ser el único al que le sucediese algo así.

Lo que les cuento hoy, inició en La Luna Naranja, centro cultural que posee una cafetería donde elaboran un fuerte café expreso que sobresale por su calidad —aunque también por el precio elevado con que lo expenden— tanto en el sabor como en el aroma.

Cuando pensé demorar en este sitio, todo plan tuvo que ser modificado. Se fue la electricidad, pero por fortuna pude beber con calma de esta primera taza de café.

Estaba esperando a alguien y deseaba beber algo más, por lo que decidí ir a otro lugar a ver si tenía más fortuna con la electricidad.

Me aventuré a ir al Comic Coffee para verificar algo que me había dicho una amiga. Tristemente tenía razón ella, ahora resulta que la entrada a uno de los salones decorados de esta cafetería tenía un precio, solo por entrar, sin haber consumido nada, sumamente elevado. Imagínense que el salario promedio de un profesional en Cuba oscila sobre los 6000 pesos, y en el Comic Coffee, por apenas sentarte en una mesa, te cobran 500 pesos. No les menciono el costo del café y sus variedades para no divagar más, pero imagino se harán una idea.

Como siempre intento hacer, respiré con calma, sonreí y me dispuse a olvidar aquello que podría incomodarnos. Me enfoqué en volver a disfrutar del diseño particular de la cafetería y el sabor único del café solicitado.

Aunque ya había visto estos decorados, no hay dudas de que es sumamente atractivo. Colores vivos, trazos dinámicos y una técnica pictórica que nos lleva a pensar en la capacidad artística del autor, logran que el tiempo transcurra agradablemente.

Fue aquí donde sucedió lo inesperado. Estando solo en este salón, me sorprendió la llegada de alguien especial. Resulta que, cuando me dispuse a saludarle, derramé la taza de café en la mesa.

Me avergonzó lo acaecido, pero por suerte no tuvo consecuencias graves. No fue tanto lo derramado. Ni siquiera llegó al suelo el café y, lo más significativo, no se manchó el vestuario que tenía puesto esta noche, algo que en otro momento sí me sucedió y no es nada agradable, se los aseguro.

Cada rostro en la pared parecía mirarnos. A ello súmenle que también se fue la electricidad en esta cafetería... Cuando logré limpiar el desastre, les sonreí y me despedí.

La noche es joven aún. Nuestros pasos nos llevaron entonces a otra cafetería...

Ahora, imaginamos comenzar la noche y entonces nos descubrimos en La Vitrola, con otra taza de café, y la búsqueda de la poesía que el mundo nos brinda en su capacidad de colgarnos de la luna.

Así que, mientras nos sumergimos en el aroma de otro sorbo de café, me voy despidiendo, no sin antes ofrecerles a cada uno de ustedes ¡un abrazo de luz!
