We looked at it, smiled, and it flew off to other horizons, hopefully not to transmit any of the diseases that plague Cubans today.

The service at this place didn't live up to the expectations set by its design. However, we tried to laugh it off and not let it ruin the afternoon. We ordered a cortado and even joked about why that type of coffee is called that.

Vean ustedes. Arribamos a Zoet, una cafetería cuya decoración invita inevitablemente a ocupar sus asientos y mesas para creernos en un universo mágico donde la miel, la evocación a los panales de abejas y el aroma del café resultan atractiva compañía para superar el paso del tiempo.

Cuando uno piensa en miel, pudiera imaginar, tal vez, la proximidad de insectos tan molestos como las moscas, pero no, acá lo primero que nos encontramos al sentarnos en la mesa fue a un mosquito con total tranquilidad en su espigada figura.

Le miramos, sonreímos y se fue a otros horizontes, ojalá no a transmitir alguna de las enfermedades que tanto lastran a los cubanos actualmente.

La atención del personal que labora en este sitio para nada es coherente con la expectativa que provoca su diseño. Sin embargo, intentamos reír sobre ello y no permitir que estropeara la tarde. Pedimos un café cortadito y bromeamos incluso sobre el por qué se llama así a esta modalidad del café.

Aunque muchos quizá den por sentado el nombre de la bebida, no es pecado recordar su raíz.

Confieso que, cuando intento preparar el café así en mi casa, no me sale igual. Si bien creo que logro conseguir un resultado exquisito, no he podido nunca que la espuma se forme similar a la crema en la parte superior, tal y como nos los han servido, por ejemplo.

Un café sublime, con aroma, color, cuerpo y sabor que invita a pensar en cuánto se puede diversificar su uso en la degustación.

Café cortadito, como se nombra usualmente, es un café expreso al que se le agrega, idealmente, leche caliente o vaporizada, encargada de cortar la intensidad típica del café al olfato y paladar del cliente.

Acá, en Zoet, sirven el café con la peculiaridad de permitir al cliente escoger entre azúcar o miel como agregado dulce, según el gusto de cada quien, además de un caramelo servido junto a la servilleta que permite limpiar cualquier derrame de miel en el proceso de servido.
