I hear coding, and the first thing that comes to mind is "this is so cool." Having this skill will make me a digital nomad π.
I have always thought about coding as an engineering or technology thing. Maybe you did science and tech in secondary school, then you should learn coding.
I did science but switched to a commercial course for university. And I thought since I am no longer doing science, then I shouldn't bother.
But then, a lecturer talked about a coding software specially made for the likes of an actuary. I studied actuarial science, by the way.
The coding software was R programming language. He said it is the software actuaries use in the workplace to go about their daily activities and tasks.
That sparked a light of interest in me. Having thought about coding as cool, and now I will be required to know how to use it if I want to work as an actuary.
That stuck with me, and ever since I searched for ways to learn the skill, but to no avail. Then came the data science buzz in my school.
A high-paying and sort-after skill in the world of technology and business. It sounded interesting, and I was also looking for a way to make money as a student in school.
So I decided to also search for a way I could acquire this skill. I looked it up first, and all I read about it gave me actuarial science vibes.
Dealing with data and analysing it to make better business decisions based on facts and history. It is very similar to actuarial science but more tech-intensive.
Then it all made senseβlearning a skill that could potentially make me money while in school and would be relevant in my journey as an actuary.
So I actively searched for means to learn, and then I stumbled on a scholarship to learn data science with R on DataCamp.
Learning R was one of the sweetest skills to learn for me. It required a lot of math, and I love math. I took a lot of courses on learning data science with R, but I still haven't been able to monetize the skill, and it hurts. π«
Although I didn't finish all the required courses to complete, before I'll be able to build projects and then monetize. Yet still, I know I devoted a lot of time to it. I should still be able to make something from it.
But nothing. I really still wish I could. Regardless, no knowledge is wasted. I am still waiting for when it comes in handy π

Hehe, Iβm very sure it will come in handy one day just that no one knows when because it might not come π.
Now I have to go and search for what actuary science entails, hehe.
By the way, Iβve been asking after you from @olujay, I hope he has been passing my greetings π. Well, Iβm glad to have found your post π€
I still await payment for delivery, ma...
ππ you delivered on telling me. And now you want payment ππππ
Omo mehnn π
Please do π. It is an interesting field of study.
He told me π Thank youu. Nice to meet you Hopestylist.
Yeah, I just realized itβs related to statistics and maths related stuffs, now I understand the part when you said you love mathematics a lot, hehe
Oh! Good of Jay to relate my message to you, one chewing gum for you @olujay π

During my secondary school days, I always thought coding was for geniuses and freaks. A few of my friends are learning it, and one thing they tell me is that it is really time-consuming.
ππ it's the "freaks" for me ππ
Yes it is π©π©. So abstract, and if there is an issue with your code to find it becomes hell ππ, thank God for Chat GPT now though.
The way I dissociated when I read this,
Looool. My brain just turned off. I find coding as cool too but not enough to want to learn it. I mean, it'll be nice to have friends around me that do or even my significant other (because I love to hype and brag about my friends) but me, not in a million years
Ahannnn π
Ghen ghen π. "It's cool, but let it remain at a distance."
ππ
You didn't add the part where you intimidate me with the R programming daily, sir.
You're already a hot cake, my bro. I wonder why these companies are dulling. Time will tell...
ππ
Thank you brother β€οΈ
I think guys that are good in maths become instantly attractive to me lol, I'm sure it'll pay off soon, just give it time and also put yourself out there.
By the way, this is my first time hearing about actuary science tho
Awwwww.. that's sweet.
Do you like maths too?
Amen π. Yes, giving it time and putting myself out there is very important. Thank you
Yes. It's not a common course. Only about 3 universities offer it in Nigeria. It's a course that deals with the mathematics behind risk management.
I love maths but sadly I suck at it π
Wow! That's means it's a really nice course, I wish you all the best β€οΈ
