Well, for one, my house was really close to the school. Factors like temperature, the amount of impurities to be avoided, and many others decide if a sample can leave the lab or not.

For me, it was at the early stage of my research. I just needed to dry the samples, and lucky for me, I had a microwave at home, so rather than stay up late using the lab's microwave, I decided to do it in the comfort of my home.

It was a whole long process, sieving to drying, but yeah, I was lucky that the beginning processes were those I could conveniently do at home.
