Learning For The People

I appreciate when there’s a prompt on something I can relate a lot to. It means then that I’ll have liberty to rant and yap on the subject matter as I’m known to do time and again. This weeks prompt by the Digital Lifestyle Community, spoke to me ten seconds in, so let’s get right into it.

Would you take online courses instead or rather have someone take you one-on-one in a physical space, for example? Perhaps you could share about where you take online courses. Note, it’s your experiences we’re interested in, so let’s have them!

I don’t think it’ll be quite possible to talk about this without beginning with the school space. I’ve never experienced home schooling, so I do not have much to say on the subject, but when it comes to physical learning within the conventional four walls of school, I think I have quite a lot to say.

And I would start by saying that my attraction to physical school has always and may always be the people. The students. The interaction. The community. When people hear me say that I love school, and would catch me unintentionally arriving to school hours before class, they’d call me a goody two shoes, first-class striver. Like, it’s a bad thing. and Miss Do Too Much.

Obviously, me trying to explain that it’s not cause I’m eager to learn with the lecturers will be giving you go explain tire, so I don’t bother. And by the way, who also said that being eager to learn and looking forward to lecturers droning on a subject, is a bad thing?

But yeah, the former has always been the case for me I love the people. They don’t even have to like me. But seeing them, and not even necessarily interacting, is enough to make me love school. I’m already changing that narrative, though. I must love going to school because I love to learn by force. But, that’s another story, lol.

For as long as I could remember, however, the idea of virtual learning has appealed to me. Maybe because the few online classes I’ve had beginning with Google Classroom, Course era, ALX, and the rest, all had amazing User Interfaces that were stimulating and just made me eager to keep learning and advancing from one module to the other.

I guess I may classify myself somewhat as a visual learner, after all. The aesthetic of the virtual UI deeply appeals to me. I remember when I took a VA Course towards the end of last year. Half of the time, what kept me going was the opportunity to enter into The Portal, as they called it, and moving into the next level because each module has submodules that were easy to assimilate and pleasing enough to sustain interest.

My interest in school, which is largely to interact with people doesn’t fly here, because I’m not the best at virtual interactions. Physical interactions just do it for me. But when it comes to learning? I think I’ll have to pick virtual learning over physical anytime and any day.

I think that’s about it. We’re in a digital world that makes virtual learning easier and more effective by the day. So, I stay virtual for the learning and physical for the people.

I get that feeling of having virtual courses, moving from one sub course to another and taking assignments easily. And your pov on the other side also makes a lot of sense. Colleagues, the vibes and all of that make physical learning really nice and sometimes that two hour life advice from lectures. Something we never get from virtual classes.

Yeah, I mean, where would I hear a lecturer casually launching into how things worked in his time? Definitely not on my screen, lol.

Lol not me thinking of the definition of Government when I saw "for the people" 😂

I don't think I ever went to school early because of learning, it was to see my friends early enough so we talk more before classes start 🤧

Online learning is cool and very comfortable, but like you, the people part is important too.

Merit, I'm guessing you should change this year? For the People, why?😂

That talking before Assembly time was where all the magic happened. Sadly, I was most of the time a late comer.😂😭
