THE PERILS OF HASTY TEXTS

Chatting is something I enjoy doing so much and for that reason, it’s hard for me to keep count of the number of times I have made some chatting blunders. Most times, it is thanks to my keyboard while other times it is due to my absentmindedness. The thing is, once it comes to messages or chatting, these mistakes are bound to happen but then, it becomes concerning when these mistakes happen rather too often.

One of the most significant mistakes I have made as regards messaging errors was when I was in so much haste to tell a friend about something that I didn’t even notice that I sent the message to the wrong person and I only realized after sending it and in the haste to also getting rid of it, I ended up deleting it only from my end. You know the worst part? I wasn’t sure what I even sent to the person because it’s been quite a while this happened and for the fact that I deleted it just from my end, it was as if I also deleted what the content of the message was too from my head.

I was really worried but then, there was nothing I could do. Ever since that day, I learnt how to be calm no matter how urgent a message might be. And besides sending the right message to the wrong person, I have also had some other times when my autocorrect tries to play the fast one. I don’t know if this happens to you, because it happens to me ever since I changed my phone. There are sometimes when I’m done typing everything I want to type but the moment I click on send, it changes the sentence to what it thought was what I intended to say.

When I think of assumptions, no one plays that role better than some of our keyboards and the painful part is that, most times this happens when you just can’t afford to make these blunders. A lot of persons are aware of these things but then, when we see it happen to someone, we still try to make them feel like they knew about it and still went ahead to do it. To me, it’s really frustrating and annoying most of the time.

When I find myself in situations like these ones and others like butt-dialing, if it is possible, I will edit the messages and apologize depending on what I have sent and to whom I have sent it to. But if it is something I can’t edit, I might delete it depending on the kind of person I have sent that message to, hoping that they will understand it was a mistake and not intended. While in some other cases, I won’t edit or delete it, I’ll just go ahead and say what I actually intended to say and this is so because, I don’t want the person to think I’m snitching on them or something.

These days, I try to be more careful when texting but the truth is, you can never be too careful because these mistakes happen even to the best of us in English. And when they happen, most times they all require different approaches to settle it amicably. These blunders are capable of causing really serious problems and damages sometimes and we just have to be careful because sometimes people are not so interested in what you have to say if you mistakenly abuse them all in the name of a mistake.
