Some Reflections... and Decisions

The time off from most Hive activities I took while on vacation allowed me to detach and see some things clearer, with a wider and perhaps less routine-driven perspective.

Some things I already contemplated on for a pretty long time, but it was difficult to let go.

For example, I talked on-chain with @ph1102 at some point that I intended to slow down on my writing rhythm, so I can have time to focus other things as well, on and off Hive.

So... these things have been on my mind for a while.

Being a goal-oriented person, and having set for myself those social activities targets on Hive, I found it difficult to let go. That's why, my first intention was to apply this starting next year.

But things are moving fast these days. Opportunities come and go. And in enough ways, I felt stuck and certainly not moving fast enough. That became even more obvious once I started building Hive Portfolio tools, and when posting or tracking news for Week through Adrian's Lenses were many times in the way.

It took many, many hours weekly to read, understand, gather, filter, and write the 132 issues of Week through Adrian's Lenses, but it's time to stop. It was something I've done for Hive, and a little bit for myself to stay informed, but it didn't offer enough satisfaction, in any way I could think of it. There are other people producing similar type of content maybe in a more relaxed way, so Hive is not at a loss. Follow @steevc for his Follow Friday series, which has been longer than mine. I take this opportunity to thank him for his continued support and sharing of Week through Adrian's Lenses. @coldbeetrootsoup guys also have a weekly podcast with news about Hive. If any of you would like to become admins/mods of the Hive News community, let me know.

The other decision I've made is to stop writing weekly goals posts. I will keep tracking my goals in private (except the social goals, which as of today are no longer a main target of mine). I will likely still post when I reach important milestones or set new goals. But they won't be regular posts.

I will also not hold myself to write daily. I may write often, but also may not. I wouldn't expect any consistency in this regard.

What I will likely continue to do on Hive daily (with exceptions)?

  • curate
  • maybe comment here and there
  • manage investments
  • play games
  • looks like... developing tools, with AI help, may be a direction too (I've enjoyed tinkering with Hive Portfolio tools, which I will likely continue developing, if for nothing else, for my own use)
  • etc.? (still undetermined/undiscovered)

Overall, I expect and hope to free up some time which I can use more productively or sometimes more pleasantly in different ways, both on and off Hive, both on and offline.

I think of it more like a serious adjustment of priorities, which is very important for me at this time. See you around!

Thanks for the mention!
Priorities are important, and creative work is important as well! I have noticed that I'm doing a lot of "routine" work, which takes a significant part of my time, which could be spent much more wisely... Contributing a lot more by doing some creative work, doing something new...

I know I said it a million times, but the truth is somewhere in the middle... The right balance between creative work and maintaining consistency with existing projects... They had to go one with another...

I will miss Week through Adrian's Lenses, as it was my "shortcut" to read about new stuff on HIVE, but I'm aware it takes a lot of your time...

You know best what works for you, and I'm sure you will find the right balance... Your work on HIVE is important! I know that someone sucks to feel unappreciated, but I know that I'm not the only one who recognizes your great job here!

Cheers!

It's true, we need to keep a balance, but I was leaning that balance more toward routine stuff than creative work or improving myself lately.

Regarding Week through Adrian's Lenses, it's not as much that I felt unappreciated (maybe it is that too, I would be lying to say otherwise), but I invested too much time into that project which brought me very little satisfaction, and by this I mean more than rewards.

Cheers!

You should do whatever you find comfortable, if you feel like stop, then be it

You can still post about random topics, or why not Actifit reports if you want to chill

I will keep posting. Sometimes more often, other times not so much. But the weekly roundup took a lot of my time, it was also on a fixed schedule and that sometimes was inconvenient. Basically, that time can be better used. And 132 weeks with almost no breaks is a long time to be doing this.

-0.16542273 BEE

I think that is fine. Things change in life quite fast, and sometimes you need to adjust your schedule. I think its good that you plan to stick around on the chain, and I think that is good enough. I look forward to seeing what you end up doing with that time.

Sure I'll stick around. Probably a good chunk of it will go to building Hive Portfolio further.

I appreciate your efforts with the Lenses. I got a lot of news from those. The fact is that Hive is not going to pay us too much for now, so we have to decide what is worth our time. I will keep doing #FollowFriday when I have time. People seem to enjoy it.

Have fun with whatever you do and I'll look forward to hearing about it on Hive.

Thanks, Steve! I will enjoy reading your FollowFriday posts as they come out in the future. And, judging by enough comments regarding me stopping the news roundups, it's still something relevant to people around here, so your series will continue to have loyal readers.

Sounds very well thought out, @gadrian:

"... allowed me to detach and see some things clearer ..."

"... a serious adjustment of priorities, which is very important for me at this time."

The older we get, it is not uncommon to grow increasingly aware of the fact our time is running out. And ... It is not coming back ... Therefore ... What are we doing with the time remaining?

Time and money. Where do we invest them, for the greatest possible return? And ... If the return is negligible to non-existent, what are we doing? Helping with a charity? 🤷‍♂️

For what it is worth, I always found your content an investment of my time to read as having a good return. I found your perspective, from another part of our big, wide world, to typically be well considered.

As I have myself, you may come to find that your contributions to the Hive blockchain are a nice (immutable!?) record of what you were thinking and reflecting on at the time to be a return that grows in value. Not just for yourself. But for those who come after you.

All the best to you, for whatever tomorrow may bring. 🫡🤝

And I thank you for your perspective too, @roleerob! Our rare discussions (recently, at least) have been often full of substance, and not seldom eye-opening on different subjects.

The value of content may grow with time. Who knows? But occasionally I felt I entered into a routine and the contribution, while regular, wasn't always as good as it could have been. And that without expecting a masterpiece with each post.

That is also something I need to fix by breaking the routine. Hopefully I will.

All the best to you as well!

I'm always happy to spot @gadrian in my notifications. And this one coincided happily with a fresh mug of coffee. So I settled down for an enjoyable read.

Slowly, an unsettling niggle in the pit of my stomach grew to a sense of dread. "Surely it can't be happening, can it?" But Shirley didn't help. The hammer blow dropped - no more Week through Adrian's Lense!

Almost immediately, I stopped feeling sorry for myself as I read on. As it hit me just how much I have taken this weekly gem for granted. Moreover, it coincided with recent thoughts of mine about earning from activities that I enjoy. Because as much as we enjoy something, as soon as it involves a hard-to-meet deadline, that enjoyment is in danger.

I'm feeling a bit guilty now. But my strongest feeling is gratitude.

Thanks Adrian, for making me realise that, if I enjoy reading your summary of the week, I'll enjoy myself a lot more when I focus on finding the good stuff for myself. Cos I bloody love a bit of focused research!

0.00127455 BEE

Lovely words! Thank you for that! It is fantastic if me stopping Week through Adrian's Lenses prompts you to do a little research of your own, if you love it!

No need to feel guilty! Guilty pleasures are the best, lol... Until they are not. Thanks for the tip, too! Appreciate it. 😀

I kind of feel sad reading this but I totally understand from a broader pov. Being a goal oriented person myself, it's a tight rope walk between relentlessly going after a goal and not feeling much of yourself in the process. I think when the latter gets more pronounced, it defeats the purpose of the former and making changes is necessary in that regard.

I'm also part of the camp of people who always look forward to Weekly post through Adrian's Lenses, it was how I keep up on what's happening around the ecosystem.

I'll still look forward to your other posts no matter how sparse they get as there's always something I can learn from them, I hope this new arrangement work wells for you and gives you the ability to do what you enjoy and find fulfilling :)

Yes, for a good while I felt I wasn't moving forward. It kinda changed to a degree when I started working on the various tools. That was a much needed variety. But I soon found out where were the blockages, something I already saw pretty clearly, but it didn't become a big issue until I had another time-intensive activity.

Thanks for your comment! See you around.

I really get where you’re coming from, sometimes stepping back helps clear the mind and priorities. It's an overload for me these days. A brave move is to decide to slow down and focus on what really matters.

Thanks! Wasn't so brave, but it was a needed decision that was not easy to make, and I've done it after much consideration and internal debates.

-0.17134940 BEE

Well, glad it worked out friend

0.00000000 BEE

Good to recognise when your priorities change.
Thank you for the work on the weekly lenses posts, I think Saturday Savers Club featured on there sometimes.
The future sounds more relaxed, I hope you enjoy it.

0.00127213 BEE

Yes, it is very important to understand when your priorities change and act.

I'm not sure the future will be more relaxed... Maybe more malleable, but I will keep myself busy. Sometimes more productive, otherwise more relaxed. We need to switch, if we want to keep our health.

Maybe more malleable

😁

God willing, I also would like to change my writing rhythm on Hive, and I think from next year as well, it should change. For me, it's going to be more about some other work commitments, and as well, I think I'll continue this year as usual until the end, then it'll all change in January

Goodluck with it, I think these things are inevitable

0.00127204 BEE

I hope your work commitments come out as planned. I know you already do a lot of stuff besides Hive, and sometimes I wondered how you managed to keep writing daily non-trivial posts as well.

Yes, I believe changes are inevitable at certain inflection points. Hopefully, they will be for the better! For both of us!

I will also miss the "Adrian's Lenses"... For months, it was my source of information related to what's new on Hive. Hope to see a comeback!

Thank you for reading it, but I have to disappoint you. It's too much of a time-intensive project throughout the week to continue it (maybe someone wants to do something similar with AI agents, but lots of sources to keep track of: posts, video, discord, X, etc.). Just go ahead with the alternatives, they are very good ones. Combined, they offer a pretty solid image about Hive. Include there the Swarm of Swarms from @hivetoday with the weekly dev logs.

0.00000000 BEE

Wishing you clarity and fulfillment on this new path, your contributions have truly made an impact!

Thanks! Appreciate it!

-0.16089561 BEE

I’ll miss the posts but I know how much time these things take. Maybe simmering else could take over? Or produce a similar thing? Hive is a community after all. I could do with some goals on here, just to motivate me to write more.

0.00126757 BEE

There are other people producing similar Hive news content. I listed two of them in the post (well, three since we have a duo on one side). Some Hive devs/teams also update about their work in the Swarm of Swarms published by @hivetoday weekly.
