The race for the penant

With the Little League World Series behind us now, I wanted to shift back to some other baseball news. The race towards the World Series is really heating up now. At one point it appeared the Detroit Tigers were on a collision course with the title game, things have now gotten a little more muddy.

As you would expect them to this time of year.

It's honestly no surprise, slumps happen, losing streaks happen, life goes on. It's a long season right?

Detroit still has a healthy lead over Kansas City in the AL Central 78 games to KC's 67, but in the AL East Toronto is still holding tight with 77 games won and Boston isn't too far behind them at 72. Plus, I would be stupid if I didn't point out the 71 wins that the Yankees have. They always seem to find a way to garner their band wagon fan base. Meanwhile, down in the AL West, Houston also has 72 wins and Seattle is right below them with 71.

Despite all of that, Vegas still has Detroit at +800 to win the whole thing. Apparently the further West you go the more your faith waivers for the Tigers. As for me, I will be cheering them on until the final out is recorded.

Meanwhile, in the National League, Milwaukee has rocketed to the top of not just the NL central, but the overall standings with 82 wins on the season. Meanwhile the Cubs are lagging behind them in the NL Central with 76 wins. In the NL West, the Dodgers are still holding strong with 75 wins, but the Giants are right behind them with 74 wins.

Finally, in the NL East, the Phillies also have 76 wins like the Cubs, and the Mets are a bit behind them with 70 wins. If things hold the way they have been it is pretty much a given that at least the Cubs, Phillies, Brewers, and Dodgers will be in the playoffs.

Oddly enough, Vegas still has LA as the favorite to win the series at +360. They also have Philadelphia and Milwaukee above Detroit at +750. Seems like a fix to me...

As I said, I am a diehard Detroit fan, so I am going to be cheering for them no matter what. It's just not in me to cheer for anyone else as long as they have a shot. Now, if they somehow don't make it or get knocked out, that's a different story.

Though given the teams available, I am not sure who I would cheer for sans the Tigers. I'd say maybe the Dodgers since their minor league affiliate is in my home town, but that just seems to easy. Especially given the hype Vegas has for them. I'd rather cheer for the underdog.
