I went to my farm this morning to see how the crops were doing and to know if they are matured and ready harvesting and I must say, I was filled with joy to see that most of the crops especially the groundnuts were ready for harvest.

On reaching the farm, I observed that most of the groundnut plants had started showing signs that they were ready.

The leaves had turned yellowish and were drying up, which is usually an indication that the pods underground are mature.

To be sure, I bent down and gently loosened the soil around one of the plants with my hands.

I then pulled it out from the ground, and the roots came up with several pods hanging from them.

After removing it, I broke some of the pods, open it and found the seeds inside fully developed, confirming that the groundnuts were ready for harvest.

I then continued with the process again, carefully pulling out one more plant and shaking off the soil clinging to the pods to confirm if it will give me same result as the first one I removed and it did.

To be honest, the sight of the groundnuts attached to the roots gave me satisfaction because it showed that the farming season this year was successful and my labour was not in vain. Hopefully within the week, my brothers and I will come and harvest them all, remove the pods after which I would need to spread them under the sun to dry properly.

I also checked on the maize. Most of the cobs had dried hairs and the husks were turning brown, a sure sign that they had reached maturity.

A few others still needed some days before they would be fully ready, but I decided to harvest few ones that were already good.

I pulled down some of the stalks, twisted the cobs, and they came off easily in my hands. The cobs were full and firm showing they had developed well inside.

After gathering both maize and groundnut, I packed them together in a small bag and took them home. At home, I peeled some maize and boiled it, while I also prepared some of the harvested groundnuts.

To be honest, eating those cooked maize and groundnut was really satisfying because it came directly from my own farm and I was glad to see that the effort of planting now producing food.

And so I invite all you lovers of groundnut and maize to come over and enjoy together 😜.
