My First Harvest of the Year

Are you a beans lover? Come over, let’s enjoy together 😜.
I really thank God for everything. This is my first harvest of the year.

For the past two weeks, I’ve been very busy with school work. There were so many things to do as we prepared for the pupils’ and students’ graduation party. Because of that, I didn’t have time to visit my farm or check on how things were growing. But now that school is on break, I finally had the chance to go to the farm.

My plan was just to check things out and see how the crops were doing. I didn’t even expect anything serious. But to my surprise, I found out that some of the beans had already matured and were ready for harvest. Honestly, I wasn’t prepared for any harvesting that day. I didn’t go with a bag or anything. So, I quickly rushed back home to get a bag, and then returned to the farm to gather the beans that had matured.

Not all the beans were ready though. Some were still green, which means they are still in the process of forming the beans inside.

Others were yellow and though they looked close to being ready, they still need a few more days or maybe a week to fully mature.

The ones that had turned a brown colour were the fully matured ones, and those were the ones I picked.

I picked the matured beans one by one and dropped them gently into the bag. When I finished harvesting them, I brought them home and spread them out under the sun to dry properly.

As they are now, they’re still wet, and if they are not dried well, the beans will start turning black. That black colour can damage the seed inside and cause it to spoil. You can already see in some of the beans that they’ve started turning black a little, which is why drying them is very important.

Some black beans because there are not properly dried

I peeled off some of the beans and decided to prepare them for lunch. So, I’m inviting you to come and eat with me 😜. Let’s enjoy the taste of the first harvest together @emmy02 !!!

Also, the millet on the farm has grown big. I noticed that some of the millet was already mature, so I removed a few of them too. They’ll also need to be properly dried before storage.

This harvest, even though it’s just the beginning makes me happy. I feel very excited seeing the fruits of my labour. At least the effort I’ve put into this farm is not in vain.

Thank you for stopping by..
