This morning, I decided to take a walk around my garden to see how the plants were doing. It has been raining since morning and from the past few days now which had left the ground soft. I started from the corner where the pepper plants are growing. Some of the small round peppers had already turned bright red.
A few were still green, and some were in between, halfway to red, slowly changing colour with time.
I planted a lot of these peppers around the garden and now they have spread out around. I picked a few of the ripe red ones to use later in cooking as you know these peppers are quite hot, so even a small amount adds plenty of spice to food.
From there, just beside the round peppers, were the slender green chili peppers. The last time I checked, they hadn’t started forming yet, but now they have come out long. They are usually less hot than the round peppers but are still good for seasoning and they add a nice kick to food. With this one's growing well like this, I’ll soon have enough to use without buying from the market.
From there, a few steps away were the okra plant. The plants have started producing their fruits, and there are also flowers on many stems.
The okra pods and stems are covered in small hairs, so they can scratch the skin if not handled carefully. I experienced that when I touched one of them while observing the plant. Okra are good plants to have at home, because you can use them easily for soups and I'm very much positive that the plants will produce more seeing as the flowers keep blooming.
Also in another section of the garden, the tomatoes were doing well. The tomatoes are still green and there are still growing. They are not yet ready to be pick but with more time, they will ripen and turn red. Once that happens, they will be ready for picking.
The good thing about having this garden around the house is that, once all these crops are producing well, I won’t need to buy most of them from the market. I can just walk outside, pick what I need, and go back to the house. It’s convenient, saves money, and I will have fresh vegetables directly from the garden. By the time I finished my walk, I had a small handful of peppers to use for cooking.
