In anticipation for Harvest

Harvest time is drawing near and I can’t help but feel overjoyed. There is something very special about seeing the work of your hands begin to show good results. I remember, just last week I came around the farm to weed and to check out my crops that I planted. The plants were still small then. But today, when I walked through the farm, I was amazed. So many of the crops have grown so well. Some have even started to bring out their fruits.

The maize was the first to catch my eye. I saw that the silk or what some call the hair of the maize was already showing. This is always a sign that the maize is forming its cobs and getting close to being ready. I could even see the fruit starting to show beneath the husk. The plants were tall, strong and looking very good.

The millet were also looking good. The heads of the millet were growing larger and the grains were becoming fuller. The leaves were wide, spreading out on th ground.

The pepper plants were also looking good. They had grown tall and bushy, with so many leaves. Though they haven’t yet begun to show the peppers, I know it’s only a matter of time. Even the same thing goes for the tomatoes.

Then the sweet potatoes. The leaves have spread across the ground also, forming a thick cover over the soil. This is usually a good sign that the roots beneath are growing well.

The okra plants have grown more than the way I saw them last week. They’ve become taller and wider and some of them already have signs of forming pods. It won’t be long before I start harvesting them.

The groundnut plants from the main farm are also looking very good. The leaves are green and they have really grown. I remember the day I planted those seeds. Now they are standing strong and are almost ready.

The farm is doing well and soon the harvesting time will come. That will be the time to gather the fruits of my labour after all the hard work of planting and weeding.
