A sunday at the farmers' market and four tangerines [EN/PT]

For me, Sunday is farmers' market day, and to be honest, I absolutely love being able to do this every week. I think that once we build a routine, certain things stop being optional and become something we genuinely need. Last week, for example, I didn't go to the market because my meal plan for the week didn't require any vegetables, and somehow it felt like something was missing that Sunday. Looking back, I think what was missing was simply the fact that I hadn't gone to the market.

Today, however, I went back to the meal plan that I enjoy preparing the most, and since I cook all my meals for the entire week in advance, I know exactly what I need to buy.

I'm not a huge fan of tangerines, but every once in a while, I suddenly feel like eating one. And why not? It's a great fruit, and I bet it's packed with vitamin C. Usually, when I visit my mother's house, I grab a few there, but it's been quite some time since my last visit. So today, I decided to buy some. (Just look at the picture: they were beautiful and looked incredibly juicy.)

At first, I picked only two tangerines. My plan was to eat them right there while walking around the market, but I felt a little embarrassed about buying only two, so I ended up taking four. The price was excellent: just two reais per kilogram.

When I put the tangerines in the bag and the vendor went to weigh them, I found it strange that he walked all the way to a scale on the other side of the stand. And of course, I followed him because I always like to double-check things. Unfortunately, dishonest vendors do exist. When I got close to the scale, I had the impression that he wasn't expecting me to come over there, since I had to walk around the entire stall. Then, looking a bit surprised, he asked me if five reais sounded fair.

I quickly did the math in my head and realized that those four tangerines certainly didn't weigh two and a half kilograms. I simply thanked him for his time and walked away. Someone less attentive might have ended up paying three times the actual price. Not me, though. I always check.

Well, unfortunately, these things happen sometimes. But honestly, most of the vendors at the farmers' market are completely different. They often even give customers a little extra as a courtesy and as a way to build loyalty. That's fine, though. This particular vendor lost a customer because I'm never buying from his stand again.

Anyway, today turned out to be a great time to do my shopping. I arrived quite early, and I may start doing that every Sunday from now on because I found vegetables that were larger than usual and looked exceptionally fresh. And well, maybe I won't be buying tangerines again anytime soon. This experience wasn't a very good one.

Então, hoje, me deu vontade de comprar algumas. (Olhem a foto: elas estavam lindas e pareciam muito suculentas.)

Eu escolhi duas mexericas.
