Those Little Things - Gratitude!

Still no washing machine!

Remember that I was so happy to move to another place and be able to shower and do the laundry at home? Well, the day of moving in, we received the key and while walking to the laundry room, she said "the washing machine comes in a week, I ordered a new one". Uhm, oh, it would have been nice if you told me before taking all the laundry with us the first drive, lol. But I thought by myself at least it's just a week, I will survive one more week doing laundry in the laundry service. Even though it costs me 5 euros each time. I bet the machine was just too old and dirty to keep and I wanted to focus on being grateful for her ordering a new one.

Less often

I usually do laundry every other day, but since the drought diaries, I try to go just once a week. Sometimes I just take one batch and sometimes two. I try to be smart with the clothes we wear so we will end up with mostly dark or white laundry at the end of the week. On Sunday, I went to do a big 18kg laundry batch including bedding and a winter blanket as my boyfriend complains it's too cold without that blanket at night. This is probably because the window frame came loose when there was a storm the first days.

Washing machine arrival

Funny thing to share is that when I came back last week with the batch of laundry (the one before Sunday), I had all my laundry outside and partially inside when the doorbell rang. They told us delivery for a person we don't recognize, turned out the boyfriend of our landlady has bought the machine and there it was, totally unexpected, the washing machine. I felt bummed for using the expensive laundry service that morning.

That is until the package came off. See below:

The box was not damaged, we saw it, this machine had been damaged and than packed as if nothing happened. I'm happy for the delivery guy that the box was intact because he surely wasn't the cause of the damage. I always wonder if these people have to pay for accidents, causing them to cover up any incident such as this one. Thankfully for us the delivery guy immediately called his superior to tell about the damage as well as to show the box was intact. Meaning this machine wasn't staying and went for a return. My happiness to be able to wash again in my own home after 5 weeks was very short, it took only 5 minutes sadly.

Still grateful

Even though we seem to have a bit of bad luck in terms of the no-water issue first, and then moving in to a new home without a washing machine. I try to look at it from the positive side, namely that I can dry my laundry outside! Seeing the clothes hang outside on our balcony is a tiny moment of happiness for me. I have to admit that I love the smell of clean laundry, even more so when its been dried outside. For 15 months, I had to dry everything inside a home without much airflow, you can imagine the moist building up in the walls. Therefore I try to go to the laundry service with a smile and am grateful when I see even the laundry issue is not that big of a deal and a huge upgrade from where we came from.

Those little shirts up there, they make me happy!

Waiting for the new machine

Where they first said the delivery would be within 1 week, and later taking 2 weeks, I hope the new one will be delivered with a bit of urgency as this was caused on their side. It would be nice to do the next round of laundry at home, not only because of the convenience of doing so, but also because I'm waiting for the machine to arrive before we can place a storage rack inside the laundry room to properly give everything a place that doesn't fit in the kitchen. Fingers crossed this is the final week of waiting.

For now, I'm happy that another round of my laundry is drying in the winter sun outside on our balcony. What a joy!

I'm glad you finally have a washing machine! It's about time! I can't believe they shipped it out damaged, but at least it works!
