Day 12 - Sketching Markers
I got inspired by the "30 day not-so ordinary ordinary items challenge" but as I love giving things a personal twist, I decided to change the format a bit for myself so it suits me better. I've adjusted it to the 30 pictures - 30 stories challenge. But some days you will see that I also use not-so ordinary ordinary objects.
Feel free to join the challenge at any time if you like.
Publish one picture a day during 30 days and write a story about that picture. This can be anything, any object in the home, a person, scenery or a pet. I'm going to share a diversity of pictures and challenge myself to step outside of the box.
Today's picture contains a box of 36 sketching markers from Crealando (Lidl) which I wanted to order for a few months until I decided to go ahead. First I felt I should order them for my daughter but then I realized that she often presses too hard on the markers and this set was probably a little out of her league for now. I decided to add them to my personal collection and then let her use them under supervision so they'd not be ruined within a week. So far it's been a struggle for her to keep in mind these markers don't need a lot of pressure. Let's see if I can teach her by trying these as they flow very well as soon as you touch the paper.
It wasn't the easiest set to order let me tell you. I love ordering at LIDL as they have great customer service. You can return any item within a certain period and without questions asked if you bought it in the store, but online they only ask you to fill in a reason. They treat all the returns the same, used or unused, as I know by now. I had a few "doubtful" items that I wasn't sure about keeping or returning and I know now that a late return is just as quickly picked up (for free!) and refunded as newly received items. I appreciate it when a store is this flexible and for that service alone I usually first peek at their site because it just makes my life easier if I can handle things in a few clicks.
Too bad that the markers were first delivered with a plastic foil around the box but no protection in the rest of the box where other items were placed. The (very convenient) plastic box with the markers was all broken and on top of that when I tried a few markers as I wanted to know if I wanted a new set or not, the ink was splashing out of many of them. They really took a hit that was obvious.
I returned them, and immediately ordered a new set in case the stock was low. I received the new set a few weeks ago but only discovered a few dried out markers making me doubt again if these weren't just shitty quality markers and if I'd be smarter to return them instead. Then I thought at least the box is not broken and I love the color, let's try to revive the markers with water which didn't work. I took a bit of alcohol and they started flowing ink immediately. As you can see on the card the middle one is still a bit watery so I will turn it inside the box and I'm confident it will be perfect tomorrow.
I'm feeling creative already and plan on using them this weekend.. It's my first proper sketching set so I reckon it will take a bit of practice using them.
