There are here too, like every corner you can find a cat colony. I do have to give the Spaniards credit for feeding and giving them water. There are a few organizations that take care of the cats, sterilize the strays and put them back etc.. and they have some sort of colony control where a few people are pointed out to be the "manager" of that colony so when someone finds one, they will be the ones directing what needs to be done etc..
Also, a lot of people take care of those that are injured and then organizations cover the costs when a foster home will look after them while recovering. We found a very good-looking cat a few weeks ago, I asked on the FB groups if someone is missing this cat, but it turns out to be a stray. He was helped and is now put back on the street with a mark on the ear (didn't know this until then that they do for easy recognition of sterilization)
I personally knew a long time ago cats are very social, we had 3 litters in Holland and I can only say it was an amazing experience, we had very social cats. Super cool.
