No, I don't own this coin, but I wish I did. Isn't it beautiful? Everything from the design right down to the blue and purple toning . They really don't come much prettier than this one! This is known as a Gobrecht Liberty Seated dollar which were produced in very small numbers from 1836 until 1839. They were experimental coins to see how well the public would accept the new design. The experiment wound down in 1839 and very few were produced that year, and this is one of them.
This coin was submitted to the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) for evaluation and was assigned a grade of PR-64+. Meaning it was near perfect, which would have been a 70, and this is the only coin from 1839 with this grade. Only four coins have been graded higher at PR-65. Here it is sealed in the grading case from PCGS:

This coin was designed by Christian Gobrecht in 1835 using neoclassical design, based off of ancient Roman statues. The obverse (front) displays Liberty seated on a boulder holding a liberty pole with a pileus cap on top of it. The pileus cap was given to freed Roman slaves in ancient times. This stirred up controversy as Thomas Jefferson (3rd US President and writer of the US Declaration of Independence) had once said, "we are not emancipated slaves". Nevertheless, the design remained. The reverse (back) of the coin had a majestic eagle in flight.
This coin could be yours for the sum of only $100,000. A little bit expensive, yes. Outside of my budget, absolutely. But if you have the cash it could be yours, and they accept payment in Bitcoin as well.
I'm a bit of a smart shopper, so I went to PCGS where they track the auction sale prices of their graded items. This coin has sold anywhere from $82,500 to $97,500 recently, so it may be a little over priced. I included the table below so you can see for yourself, the pertinent line is highlighted and grade circled. But chances are you will make money down the line. In twenty years this could be going for $200,000 to $300,000 or more. It would be a great investment if only I could afford it!
From pcgs.com
The Gobrecht dollar was doomed to history and the mint elected to change the reverse of the coin. The eagle in flight was replaced with the Heraldic Eagle that Gobrecht also designed and can be seen below. However, I think his eagle in flight was a much prettier design. This was the pattern used on US coins from 1840 until 1873. It was a beautiful design but could have been much better with the first eagle design!

Very interesting. It's crazy to think there are still pieces floating around out there from that long ago. I do like the toning on that one. The blue is pretty cool.
The toning is what really caught my eye on this one. And there are four graded and PR65 for only $50,000 more... I wish I had that kind of money to play around with, but out of my budget for sure. There are many way more expensive than these!
If I didn't know any better, I would have guessed it was due to age or wear. It sounds like they intended for it to be that way though.
If only I have a time machine, than I will go back and grab one of them so it can be graded so high, and be sold so expensive. hahah
great coin for sure my friend.

It's a beautiful coin, no doubt. The blue hue on the coin with the whole engraving makes it a masterpiece. However I thought the beauty of it will make it to be mass-produced, since it was initially experimental.
However, realistically it's an emotional investment, and unless I'm already financially comfortable, I won't be buying it.
It's a rich man's playground for sure, extremely rare coins are always going to expensive. Early American coins do hold their value well though, so it would be a safe investment if I had $50 million in the bank. I won't be buying it either...
Hahaha I thought with 50$M you'd be financially free and be able to gamble on this one?
Could we expect to see this coin on your 12 Days of Christmas wish list of 2025?

I'm sure it will be long gone by then! There are many passionate collectors of these things with very large wallets... As cool as this is and would love to own, a gold money chain of the Atocha runs around the same price, I'd take the gold!

Sadly, these coins are prohibitively expensive for most of us stackers. The rounds are really cool, if you can't have the original a reproduction is always nice!

Wow $100,000 that’s a bit steep for my budget as well, my friend!🙄
The second reverse version is still very nice, I believe I have a very well worn second version somewhere in my collection!😇
I have a few too, but imagine having one of the original design proof versions like this one, wow! Out of my budget for sure! lol
Most definitely.... the original is a beautiful design, and obviously sought out by collectors in earnest!!😀😇
Wow. I was amazed at how beautiful this coin looks.
Old silver coins can be very beautiful, and in this case, extremely expensive!
