Investing in Silver or Hive? What's better? Happy HPUD!
A couple days ago @bitcoinman wrote a post questioning where is the wisest place to invest in Hive? or precious metals? It got me thinking and I decided to do a bit more analysis on the subject. However, before I dive into that, since it is Hive Power Up Day, I did do a power up. I have now powered up 20 months in a row. Not a streak I wanted to break!
Now onto the main subject for today. Let's start with a silver price chart over the last year:

Looking back at the one year silver price charts, if you bought a year ago at $30 per Troy ounce today you would be up 40% on your investment. If you were a smart investor and bought the dip to $27.50 per Troy ounce (I did), you would be up 53% on the year. Not too bad a return on investment at all. The shiny stuff is a great place to invest that inflating fiat in order to retain wealth.
Will prices continue to skyrocket upward forever? No. But with all the uncertainty in the world it is very likely to go much, much higher.
Now let's look at Hive. Remember that sweet push up past $0.60? I sure miss those days... So, if you bought Hive one year ago at around $0.18, at the moment you are breaking even. Had you played your cards wisely, you could have sold at above $0.60 and tripled your money, but most of hung onto the majority of our stakes.
What worries me is that as other crypto has increased in value right along with Bitcoin, Hive hasn't. Also you will notice I circled the volumes at the bottom of the chart, back during the $0.60 push there was all sorts of volume and excitement. Now it looks like a flat lined EKG, not very exciting at all.

Compare that to BTC over the last year now. If you bought at $60K last year, you are up nearly double on your investment. What is interesting is the volume recently on BTC, you can see where I circled it, it's really high which is encouraging. We may see some serious price gains yet in the near future. $150K? Maybe...?

Many of the other chains are up 50% or more on the year, not all of course. Where there are winners there will always be losers. At the moment I would say BTC definitely looks like a solid investment as does silver. The shiny metal will continue to perform admirably for the foreseeable future. I didn't even delve into gold which is at $3,864 per Troy ounce up 49% on the year as well!
So where does that leave us? For me I'll continue to invest in precious metals and BTC as they both make since from past performance over the last year. Hive worries me, as it crab walks along sideways with no real volume or excitement. I do hope we see improvement as I enjoy Hive and I love posting and sharing with all of you. But right now it's a very hard sale to bring in money in from elsewhere to invest in Hive; when BTC, silver, or gold offer much better returns on investment.
Sadly, it also seems even the Koreans have given up on their Hive pumps. Maybe they found another chain that is more profitable? I hope not, and I'm hoping for the best. But things may get much worse price wise in the coming months...

Way to go with the power up! I haven't really invested a lot of outside money into crypto, but I am starting to wonder if it would have been smart just to move all my gains into BTC. That seems like the smartest and most stable play most the time!
It was kind of weak one, but better something than nothing! I think BTC is looking the most stable long term right now, and I probably have should moved more over sometime ago too. Live and learn...
Kind of agree with you... We got too many new cryptocurrencies in the last 3-4 years, and there is no way that all of them will survive (or go up), even in a strong bull market... On the other side, I would say that we will probably lose some big tokens in the next bear, as they will lose momentum... Some of them are "old tech" and new chains are having better performances... Of course, BTC is out of every league, so I wouldn't worry about it...
I think there was a moment when Upbit got some fines to pay regarding the KYC of their customers... From that moment, they changed their TOS, and I think we didn't have any Korean pump... I forgot about the exact details, but I suppose you can find them on the Internet...

Thanks! I hadn't heard that about Upbit. BTC is in a class of it's own and is a smart bet, and I agree we will see some big ones fade away in the next bear. I keep being surprised by ETH staying as strong as it is with so many other chains that have new and faster tech!
It’ll pump out of nowhere like it always does. Recent ZEC pump shows how the script can flip from someone saying “it’s dead” to “it’ll replace BTC”.

Way to go on the power up streak, I totally forgot yesterday was the first until late in the day and then didn't even twig about pud or powering up. HIVE yeah not doing much as a token. It's above my paygrade to suggest what to do to make the Hive ecosystem more inviting for users.
BTC is always the safest bet in crypto, but to double your money there, you now need a price of $236k. I still think it is part bitcoin part other big alt for an investment plus a wee bit of fluffing gambling on memecoins lol
Meme coins are a waste of money, and BTC will be the king of the block for a very long time as it was the first! Thanks, I've been on a power up streak for close to two years now, it wouldn't feel right to break it! lol

Mostly PMs for me. Crypto is something that seems to be a good fit my criteria of an off grid asset thought a very volatile Risk-on type. I don't usually think of Hive as 'the' crypto but a part of my crypto portfolio. I do have BTC, LTC, Doge, some ETH along with Hive. Come to think of it, I haven't really sunk much cash into my portfolio, just time and effort. My good fortune allowed me to take some profit in the form of gold and silver a few years ago, should most of crypto totally crashes I'd have some PMs to show for it. I'm hoping Hive can make a comeback.

That is awesome! I wish I would have gotten started here sooner and had more years to build up my numbers, but never late than never I suppose! Really the best way to earn crypto is through time and effort, anyone can buy in, but I would rather use my fiat on precious metals personally. Those PM will look great when everything crashes!

Anything is a better investment than Hive, honestly. Hive had unfortunately become a penny stock. It will either fade to nothing or it will get that big pump that makes us all a lot of money.
The Koreans could be playing it safe for now, since they were slapped down several months ago for their market manipulation. I kind of hate Khal's adding Tron to what Leo is doing right now, but I don't know... maybe that will pull the Koreans back here again.
Hopefully it will be the pump scenario, but it has many of us concerned... We'll see if Khal adding Tron helps, but when you get in trouble for market manipulation I can see why they might be a little gun shy!
I've have never thought of Hive as an investment, so although the price is not a concern the unfriendlyness of the platform does worry me. Too many people have become discouraged by downvotes and left and it may be impossible to ever rebuild the reputation that Hive is a good place to spend your time and energy.
I agree, I see it as a fun platform as well but so much drama does discourage people. We need to have a more positive image for Hive overall, I agree. I've spent a lot of time and energy here, not as much as you of course, but I would hate to see it all for nothing if we can't keep excitement and engagement high!

I share the concerns about $HIVE. I believe there is no coming back. $HIVE should already have moved to due the Bitcoin price movement like the other altcoins do, but it did not. For me $HIVE is just a dead coin which I need for votes. It was an investment in the beginning when I entered Hive, but not anymore. It's sad but it is what it is. It would be nice to see $HIVE pumping again and I would love to see that.

Silver is doing awesome and so is BTC. I'm hoping they both keep racking up those gains! I should put more into HBD saving and I do earn from delegating to LEO as well. So there are some nice areas to earn still, I do hope for a nice Hive pump in the near future though!
