Hello Splinterlands Summoners! In another exciting update, Splinterlands has announced a new free to play mode. The new mode will be rolled out on July 29.
Meanwhile, the Splinterlands team has posted a poll on which name best fits the new free to play mode in this link. Please check it out and vote!
I'm currently in Silver I and working my way to Gold III. It's not easy though as the competition is tough and I'm getting a lot of losses. I'll keep on grinding since we still have more than nine days left in the season. I'm also constantly checking the cards market to get some good deals and upgrade my deck.
My tried and tested combos deliver but I try to experiment on new ones when I can. These are my favorite battles in the season so far.
In this battle, my Fire team was against one of powerful archons in the Rebellion set, Eternal Tofu. It grants powerful buffs and tactics abilities to its team. I used the Fire team in this battle with my Cavewise Wayfinder, Vicious Giraffe and Portly Cannoneer combo. Making up the rest of my team were Continuum Seer and Chaos Battle Mage.
The opponent's team is composed of mostly low mana units. It's a tradeoff that he has to bear since his powerful archon consumes seven mana. Nevertheless, the opponent team has good synergy. He has a decent low mana tank followed by a unit with Reach ability. He's got a healer in the team and a strong legendary card. To complete his team, he's got a three mana magic card included.
My opponent chose the Triage and Scavenger tactics abilities but Triage won't help him much in this battle since my units are all attacking his frontline. My units also has higher attacks due to the combo I use. I won this battle without much difficulty.
The next battle has the Little League ruleset. I chose the Death team and picked the Halfling Refugee for my tank. In second position, I had the Death Ranger. I could use it as a secondary tank since my archon grants Close Range ability. In the last position I had Gonach Excavator who has the Reckless ability. He is flanked by a gnome who has Painforge to take advantage of the Excavator's Reckless ability.
My opponent also chose Death with Razi Clanktrap giving Painforge ability to gnomes. He also had the higher level archon and units. However, his units don't have good synergy and poorly placed. He's got the Gonach Excavator in tank position followed by a legendary Filthy Scavenger gnome. His strategy is also to exploit the Reckless and Painforge combo and increase his gnome's attack. In third, he has another gnome followed by another unit with Reckless ability. I would have placed the Halfshell Seer in last position and his Ferrous Brewer in fifth. The opponent's placement also damages his Thragha in fifth position.
My units, particularly my tanks, have the higher defense against my opponent's higher attack. My first and second units have to survive and let my backline units deal damage. This strategy worked aided by my opponent's lower health and poor unit positioning.
The next battle has the Earthquake ruleset. I always prioritize using the Dragon splinter and Night Reaper whenever I encounter the Earthquake ruleset. The Night Reaper is perfect having both Flying and Wingbreak abilities. It's three magic damage is great and further amplified by Wingbreak against enemy flyers. I chose the Death team along with Dragon since I have another flying unit in the Death splinter, Shadowfey Sheik.
My opponent chose a dual splinter archon with Life and Earth units. His team had a couple of flying units and a unit with Wingbreak. Luckily I placed my Shadowfey Sheik ahead of my Night Reaper. He will be targeted first by the opponent's Wood Troll.
The battle was a close fight as both teams had their strengths. My opponent had a very tough tank sustained by a healer. His non-flying units had high health that helped them survive the earthquake damage. My advantage was that his unit with Wingbreak ability did not have fly and was eliminated early.
