The system is not broken; we are.

Prior to the advent of technology, there were no cures for major illnesses that wiped out entire communities. People back then would have wished they lived in the future so they could develop cures for illnesses, faster ways to grow food to feed the population, and a variety of other innovations.

Although we can not yet cure cancer or travel through time, human technology is capable of many incredible feats. However, these were not without consequences. We now complain about junk food, excessive preservatives in food, air pollution, microplastics, and other issues.

These issues have resulted in new illnesses, and some people wish we could return to the 1980s, when everything was nice and calm.

I believe no era of humanity will ever be balanced, and it is not time, space, or the universe; it is simply us.

We Hive Have A Problem

Apparently, Hive has a problem, and it is unique to us. Of course, this is all sarcasm; I am simply trying to echo the sentiments of a few.

One of the most frequently complained-about aspects of Hive is adoption or retention, which we all know is not the case.

Re(tention)-Ward

The consistency of reward or disappointment after high expectations is the root cause of this problem, which exists throughout web3.

I recently became involved in other aspects of web3 and discovered that retention is a major issue; we only complain about Hive because we have not taken the time to see how it works out there.

The Comparison Bias

Now we hear arguments like "but Facebook has a billion people and everyone is happy", but they forget that Facebook is not web3.

Some people wish we could combine the simplicity of Facebook with the sophistication and reward of Hive, as well as elements of Reddit and Instagram.

See this....

It is like wanting a woman with big buttocks who is beautiful, wealthy, faithful, a good cook, down to earth, God-fearing, and, most importantly, a virgin.

People want Hive to be everything they have hoped for while gaining widespread adoption without their involvement.

We have had people complain over the years about how we always have low prices and that we will never go to the moon, but then they power it all down and leave, using the chain as a stepping stone and never even mention that they were ever here.

I saw this post from
@nathen007 about some SpendHBD posts.

These posts appear to be about shopping for products and groceries, but I was surprised when one mentioned purchasing items that should cost a few dollars for more than the price.

The spendHBD scheme is a wonderful onboarding tool, but then, to be gaming the system is really wrong. I recall that this happened frequently in the VIBES contest, and people were banned as a result of it.

I wonder why we can not just do things the way they are, accept responsibility, and say things like "Oh, I am the reason this happened".

Take Responsibility

I believe it is simply because we do not want to admit that we may be villains. We just like to spin in around and say, things like "I'm a victim, so I had to defend myself. It's going to destroy anyway, so what does it matter if I destroy a little of it?"

When consequences occur, we like to believe that we are the only ones who are victims, never considering the role we played.

These issues are common on Hive. We want a better environment, a better price, a better Blockchain, and so on, but we refuse to contribute in any way or accept any responsibility. It is easy to believe that the system is broken when we are the ones who need to change orientation.

I believe we should also adjust our upvoting habits accordingly, supporting those who want to build instead of those who just milk this space.

I powered down some amounts but never ever gone negative after almost 8 years long journey here.

People complain there are whales here but don’t realize that maybe those whales bought their influence on the platform from these people regularly dumping their stake.

As I always say, RCs are the game changer for long term price appreciation and are given with staked HIVE so, we’ll see what happens once RCs become a scarce resource.

You're right. I try to do this as well. Although there are different unique set of people that are different. These guys powered down and came back later to actually buy a bigger position when the dip happened. I still see them here, they're building and all that. Nevertheless, I mostly support those who truly want this place to thrive and that's why I'm mostly hesitant when there are people who are on chronic power down.

Personally Hive is a game changer in many ways. It's just that many people aren't truly appreciative of what we have.

Exactly, these people buy their position, and they totally deserve the influence they have and no one should be questioning the influence they wield.

I have a chronic condition that affects me in many ways. Should I continue to thrive in better health, I want to increase my position as well.

I think the next HARD FORK promises to roll out new updates soon, needles to say, it'll be really good to see the RC economy come into play on Hive.

It is not easy to detect those who are here for the short term, someone might seem to be a long term holder but due to rewards being linear one could accumulate 100k HP and power it all down the same as it was 1k HP.

Selling pressure is not a problem imho, it is rather the fact that the main incentive (resource credits) is not yet scarce enough due to the current abundance of bandwidth we have.

That will change though as the network grows and dapps onboard more users.

I agree whole heartedly with you, and I try to avoid upvoting those who are here solely to milk Hive. I hate seeing some large voters (who I won't name) vote up accounts of women in Venezuela who promptly power down and cash out every week. All it's doing is hurting Hive prices.

No one can blame you for powering down, you've built a large stake and should be able to take some profits. There certainly are whales who have bought their way up and are trying to make a quick profit, power down and cash out. That doesn't help any of us who see Hive as a long term hold.

If those RC's become scarce it's going to a game changer, many things could be better and hopefully be fixed in the next update!

I think at some point, he did right. A while ago, I even talked with him about powering down at 8$ lol. He said he'd probably do that and take some profit. Taking profit when the market is up is really encouraged and as a big investor, this is how he'll truly benefit.

As for appreciator, well. I don't know what type of curation they run without being intentional.

In 2017 we had many people saying that were going to be here for eternity, received massive support, became a top witness, only to cash out everything few months later.

Rewards pool is limited so a big account like that cashing out 200k or many small accounts cashing out 200 won’t change much the selling pressure.

RCs becoming scarce will be a huge incentive to hold HP for sure.

I agree. I think it's the same reason many people don't have other investments, which require long-term contributions and consistency. The rewards at the start are small. But as your investment grows, the rewards grow too. But it is too much for most to wait.

Yeah, the reward is mostly small at the beginning and it's almost the same for every venture out there.

Mistakenly curated your post from 14 days ago, I didn't see the time on time

Hive can never be everything we wanted, nevertheless, it offers a unique experience to its users...it's our responsibility to play our part in contributing to the growth of the system in any little way possible, instead of the selfish actions most people portray for selfish reasons. Together we can work in making this space great...we are the problem, for real!

0.00026820 BEE

I have read a lot of post over the years. It's just been complains upon complains about How Hive hasn't been good, and how we can never be like Reddit or Facebook. Funny enough everyone just wants to enjoy what other people builds without asking what they're also going to contribute.

That SpendHBD part got me because I'm fully involved in it. But I wonder how someone would think that they can succeed by gaming the system. It's so pathetic.

Everyone has different expectations here on Hive, and when they're not met, the next thing they'll do is to complain. Some leave and even discourage others too.

Hive can never be everything we want, at least, for now. As we hope for the better, we'll continue to manage the good it offers now.

0.00026820 BEE

I don't understand why you'll buy a product for around 3$ and say it's $5, that's purely bad for those that are truly using the system and enjoying the incentives. I mean, I was truly disappointed on why. The second post even reported a higher figure, for just macaroni alone.

0.00024696 BEE

Wow, just wow. They had better not bring their corrupt selves into this system that we're just managing.

0.00000000 BEE

I think mejority of the people complaining about hive are %100 in for the money and not for the fun or work of hive. Basically you right if only they can change their mind set and learn how hive works there would probally disregard other social media
My sister was very active on facebook, I introduce hive to her and when she puts in the work and effort to get to know hive better, she focused all her energy and time on hive and abandoned facebook she calls it a waste of time

0.00026775 BEE

Well that's good of the sister. We cannot be like web2. Infact everyone on web3 actually needs retention and what we have here is a wonderful piece of tech, and there are not a lot of places that have what we have on Hive.

0.00000000 BEE

Absolutely, in the coming years hive will be the top of web 2 and 3 if it isnt already, the thing is people love the easy way out and dont want to work for their success thatvis why usually fall in the get rich quick scam

0.00000000 BEE

I can't believe people are actually taking advantage of this spendHBD project, it's actually crazy a pack of pasta twists 10HBD, that's approximately 16k in naira...

The pasta twist is not even up to $2, some people are just messed up 🤦‍♀️

0.00022350 BEE

Indeed they are. I decided to make a post because I think we need some sort of clarity. Imagine someone buying malt and biscuit for 6$ that's like 8 to 9 thousand naira lol.

0.00000000 BEE

Malt and milk $6 !!!!?

I don't know why Nigerians are always greedy, i don't know if other hivers in other countries are doing the same thing. I saw someone that bought milk for $10, it's not a big milk.

Tell me why a milk weighing 350g is being sold for $10. I saw distriator's comment on the post, I've really benefited from this project, i don't want these black sheeps to ruine this us.

Lool it's what some people want here on Hive. They want Hive to be everything at the same time. Of course lol, women like that aren't more than 10 in real life..

I agree with you, everyone needs to accept responsibility here when they do things that hurt the ecosystem. Justifying things by saying it's only a tiny amount of damage doesn't work (in my view anyway.) Then if everyone does a small amount of damage it turns into massive damage... sigh...

0.00022330 BEE

I think if everyone does a little damage, then the system is destroyed and we cannot even say this enough. I think the people in charge of the project has started taking measures in correcting these anomalies.

This fragment is precious! 😄 And true. We hold on to impossible standards sometimes, don't we? And the interesting part is that, the community being "decentralized" (if I can say that), we might hold on to different standards too, maybe even contradictory.

0.00022292 BEE

Ww truly hold on to standards that are only comparable to web2. I have read a lot of posts about people complaining always, funny this is that they're not even doing anything to match their complaints. Over the years some of them have left and sold their position and they'll probably come back someday to still complain, it's saddening

0.00000000 BEE

I slightly disagree here. We have different standards on Hive. Or at least different core opinions on certain aspects. Sometimes they are reconcilable, other times, they are not. But most often they don't feel like standards, but more like divergent interests.

0.00000000 BEE

It sucks to see people try to take advantage of the system. SpendHBD is a great project, but I think it sucks to see. I guess they will have to figure out some solutions to those problems.

0.00021865 BEE

I think stakerz is already proposing a solution, I saw a response on Nathan's post. So I think they're probably going to look into it very soon.
