I saw a movie in which Samuel L Jackson (who was also a black man) was upset that a black man was riding on a horse. I think the movie's name is Django, but I can not remember. However, I believe he (L Jackson) was a freed slave who had the opportunity to mingle with white people and thus gained privileges that other black people did not have.
You would think Jackson would be pleased that a fellow black man is now able to ride a horse, but he was furious and angry at that prospect, and was making fun of the man. He forgot he was a slave as well, but the change that occurred caused him to undergo a mental rewiring.
Fine, he hustled his way, climbed the ladder, and became free.
but it just seems crazy that he was angry at another black man.
Now there aren't prevalent racist issues like that in the 21st century, but I want to make a comparison with this same situation with being poor and depraved.
90% of your former broke friends are no longer your friends
This scene reminds me that anyone will laugh at you if you're poor, it doesn't matter if the person laughing at you was previously or currently poor.
Most will not hesitate to take the opportunity to laugh, either because you cannot afford something or because you're asking for financial assistance, or even because you have to lose your dignity in the process of asking for money to survive.
Most people around a poor or depraved person constantly give them poverty jabs. You will think that this phenomenon is mostly from the rich to poor, but unfortunately even people who are struggling to survive have been seen shaming their fellow humans who are also struggling to survive.
This is extremely common in Nigeria, and it primarily affects men. For example, most females believe they are too beautiful to be associated with a broke man, but when you look closely, they are actually very broke themselves.
They come from a poor family, and they do not have enough money to pay their own bills, but they find it satisfying to shame another man who is just as broke as them.
In life, 90% of people who are doing better than you will always berate you.
either as a joke or as a jab
It happens everywhere. This is why people are hesitant to associate with people who they perceive to be financially superior to them.
I was telling someone close to me that I had found him a wife, but when I mentioned that the lady owned a car, he objected and stated that he was not interested.
While he has not met the lady in question, he has already assumed that she is financially superior to him and will most likely use this advantage to make the marriage miserable for him.
We live in a world in which others constantly remind us of who we are. When you are ill, some people constantly imagine that you will die soon, which is due to the ever-changing scales of life.
I saw a post of someone sometimes back on Hive, they talked about being poor and not being able to afford anything, but fast-forward today they own houses everywhere and can manage to buy whatever they want, however being formerly broke didn't create a sense of relatability in them, as they're used to constantly broke shaming others on the chain whenever they get the opportunity.
Life moves fast, and sometimes faster than we do.
The person you are hustling with can have a life-changing encounter, and their lives change dramatically. When this happens to them, it rewires their mentality, and you will be surprised at how quickly they no longer know you.
This is where you must be shameless about your grind. This is because, as the popular saying goes, the more you try, the better your chances of getting lucky. I know someone in the past who could basically do so many things at the same time.
The more it sounded stupid and ridiculous, the more I began to realize why it was so. A single bird takes time to lay the golden egg. However, adding four or five birds increases your chances. If you want to be a jack of all trades, you do not have to master everything; all you need to do is find an edge.

Finding an edge is the key to surviving life! I've got broke friends, but they realize I'm not rich either so it's not an issue... I've have friends who get estate payments every month from an inheritance and really don't have to work. But they still do and usually invest badly and lose the payment. But next month another comes in so why worry. If we only all had such luck...
In life 9 times out of 10 you have to make your own luck. It just how it works unless you win the genetic lottery of being born the first born prince of royalty. The rest of us have to make things happen!
Yes, I also have broke friends too, and it's not an issue. But, I've also had people who we were closer and once they hit they've hit the greener pastures, they're gone, like so fast that you don't even realize it. So when people around you make progress it doesn't automatically positively affect or change your status, because you can easily become ex-associate, ex-bro and so many other things.
Personally, I have learned this in a few years and I think these lessons keeps coming everyday for me.

Life does move fast, and I agree that people change quite a bit when their situation improves. I think its better to know about where your roots came from, and I doubt my life would change too much if I had that much more money. Maybe a few things would be more convenient but I doubt that I would insult others for not having what I have.
Haha well yes. The life of some people will definitely not change a lot when they become financially comfortable, however we cannot exactly tell. Money and the exposure to a good and better life can make people switch up so fast, and they won't even realize they have, until another person begins to tell them.

that part of the movie where the guy makes fun of someone riding a horse is exactly what happens in real life when someone achieves a little success others start questioning " A 🥷 on a horse .." L Jackson said jajaja 😅 . Perfecting different skills is important and nowadays no one has job security so learning different things is not only smart but necessary to survive, you have to be shameless when looking for work because pride doesn't pay the bills.
That's not what happened in the movie, and you didn't get that right. Actually it was a slave movie where an elevated black man is angry that another black man got elevated.
"Such a raw and honest take on social reality! Do you think society will ever truly change its attitude toward poverty?"
No, I don't think the human society will ever do that
