The Lies We Tell Ourselves

I have lied to myself on several occasions. I knew the truth, but the truth wasn't comforting enough to make me feel better, so I switched to telling myself the opposite. Sometimes I ponder on my past and I tell myself I'd have gone beyond this level if I had been truthful to myself from the beginning. While studying health information management, I knew this was not my desired profession, but I told myself it was just fine, I'll learn to love it with time. A week before my passing out parade, I knew staying back with the job offered to me was a good decision but I lied to myself that home was more promising.

The everyday self-deception we engage in, like I'll start tomorrow, I'm not tired, etc. has certain impacts . They had done so much damage in silence than we can see. By nature we often want to prove strength, a show of prowess , but these deceptions gradually strain us until we watch ourselves slip away. Admitting certain things isn't a weakness, sometimes we need to stay true to ourselves to be happy. It's no crime to admit we are tired, why not do it today when we know tomorrow isn't another favourable day? Why not take the low paying Job when you know you wouldn't get the high earning Jobs?. Oftentimes, this self-deception brings us to a point where we believe unrealistic ideas can be achieved.

The fact that we are humans tells of our vulnerabilities and weaknesses. Sometimes letting them out isn't weakness, it's a path to true happiness. We have been made to believe admitting certain things is weakness, unfortunately many have died in silence trying to prove strength when it's human nature to exhibit some level of imperfections. The lies we tell ourselves can range from harmless ones to harmful ones, but then, with each lie , is a chunk of happiness sliced out, because we pay for it sooner or later. You may lie to as many people as you can, but the one person you can't lie to is yourself, because with each of the deceptions, comes a price so light or heavy to pay.
