A Bad Month, But Changes Wait Ahead
Even though it was perhaps to be expected, given the release of a new set which inevitably leads to a reduction in the value of sets already in circulation — more cards are added, but not necessarily more funds invested in the game, so the overall value of each individual card decreases — February still hit me hard, with a sharp drop in the value of the cards that make up my collection.
On the token side, however, the situation remains relatively stable, for once disproving my belief that, in general, it is better to invest in assets — such as cards — rather than in tokens — which usually have unsustainable tokenomics and tend to lose value more quickly.
On Splinterlands, however, SPS and DEC are two tokens that have stood the test of time, proving to have solid foundations and the ability to survive — and retain their value — even in adverse market conditions.
This is the main reason why my strategy on Splinterlands has always aimed to maintain a certain balance between investment in NFTs and in tokens, with the value of these two areas remaining roughly similar.
And this month is somewhat clear proof of that, since the value of my cards and the tokens I hold is practically identical.
Cards
Using PeakMonsters, the value of my cards is currently around 80 dollars.
Last month, the value of my collection was around 106 dollars.
A truly significant decrease: about 25 dollars less.
Honestly, next month I hope to see a result in the opposite direction: perhaps not by the same amount — that might be asking too much — but enough to bring me a bit closer to the 100-dollar mark.
Tokens
The token side has also seen a decline.
Currently, the value of my tokens amounts to 74.51 dollars.
Last month, their value was 87.24 dollars.
The arrival of a new set — or mini-set — often generates an increase in the value of SPS and DEC: this time was no exception, although the price fluctuations were lower than usual.
This also means that, now that the set has been released, the decline in value is less severe, with “only” a 13-dollar loss.
There is also my HIVE reserve, amounting to 134 HIVE obtained by converting 30,000 DEC:
Here my strategy has so far proven completely wrong: unfortunately, it would have been better to do almost anything else... but what’s done is done, and all I can do now is hope that, sooner or later, HIVE rises in value again, allowing me to buy a large amount of DEC to reinvest in Splinterlands.
And then there is my participation in the DEC-GRAIN pool:
The value of GRAIN continues to decline, reducing the amount of DEC I would get back if I removed my liquidity now... which, however, I do not intend to do for the time being, so I will enjoy my small passive income and wait to see what happens in the future.
News
The market continues to provide little satisfaction, and this inevitably affects my investment in Splinterlands as well.
However, I recently made a decision that could help me slightly increase my earnings in this game, particularly the amount of SPS I obtain.
Before finding out whether this strategy has any potential, I need to unstake all my SPS, a process that takes 4 weeks: having started it a few days ago, I will have to wait until the end of March to see whether I will be able to add a new income source to my Splinterlands strategy.
With a bit of luck, I might be able to see some small results as early as the next monthly report!

Un Brutto Mese, ma Cambiamenti Attendono all'Orizzonte
Anche se forse c'era da aspettarselo, vista l'uscita di un nuovo set che, inevitabilmente, porta ad una riduzione di valore degli altri set già in circolazione - aumentano le carte ma non necessariamente i fondi investiti nel gioco, per cui il valore di ogni singola carta nel complesso si riduce - il mese di febbraio mi ha comunque colpito duramente, con un forte calo di valore delle carte che compongono la mia collezione.
Lato token, invece, la situazione mantiene una certa stabilità, per una volta confutando la mia convinzione per cui, generalmente, sia meglio investire in assets - come carte - invece che in token - che in genere hanno una tokenomics poco sostenibile e tendono a perdere di valore più velocemente.
Su Splinterlands, tuttavia, SPS e DEC sono due token che hanno saputo resistere alla prova del tempo, dimostrando di avere fondamenta solide e la capacità di sopravvivere - e conservare il proprio valore - anche in condizioni di mercato avverse.
Questo è il motivo principale per cui da sempre la mia strategia su Splinterlands ha cercato di mantenere un certo equilibrio fra investimento in NFT ed in token, con il valore di questi due campi che, grossomodo, è sempre rimasto simile.
E questo mese ne è un po' la prova evidente, dato che il valore delle mie carte e dei token che detengo è praticamente identico.
Carte
Utilizzando Peakmonsters il valore delle mie carte risulta attualmente pari a circa 80 dollari.
Il mese scorso il valore della mia collezione era invece pari a circa 106 dollari.
Una diminuzione davvero importante: circa 25 dollari in meno.
Onestamente spero, il mese prossimo, di vedere un risultato di segno opposto: magari non per un pari importo - forse sarebbe chiedere troppo - ma che mi riporti un po' più vicino alla soglia dei 100 dollari.
Tokens
Anche lato tokens si assiste ad un peggioramento.
Attualmente il valore dei miei tokens ammonta a 74.51 dollari.
Il mese scorso il loro valore era invece pari a 87.24 dollari.
L'arrivo di un nuovo set - o mini-set - genera spesso un aumento nel valore di SPS e DEC: anche stavolta non ha fatto eccezione, anche se le oscillazioni di valore sono state più basse del solito.
Questo significa anche che, ora che il set è uscito, il calo di valore è meno violento, con "solo" 13 dollari di perdita.
C'è poi sempre la mia riserva di HIVE, che ammonta a 134 ottenuti convertendo 30.000 DEC:
Qui la mia strategia si è rivelata per ora completamente errata: purtroppo sarebbe stato meglio fare qualsiasi altra cosa... ma ormai è andata così e non mi resta che sperare che, prima o poi, HIVE torni a salire di valore, così da consentirmi di acquistare tanto DEC da reinvestire in Splinterlands.
E poi c'è la mia partecipazione nella pool DEC-GRAIN:
Il valore di GRAIN continua a calare, riducendo il DEC che otterrei indietro se rimuovessi adesso la mia liquidità... cosa che però per ora non ho intenzione di fare, per cui mi godo la mia piccola rendita passiva e aspetto di vedere cosa succederà in futuro.
Novità
Il mercato continua a non dare soddisfazioni e questo si riflette inevitabilmente anche sul mio investimento su Splinterlands.
Tuttavia recentemente ho preso una decisione che potrebbe aiutarmi ad aumentare leggermente i miei guadagni su questo gioco, ed in particolare il numero di SPS che ottengo.
Prima di scoprire se questa strategia abbia qualche potenzialità o meno devo però effettuare l'unstake di tutti i miei SPS, procedura che richiede 4 settimane di tempo: avendola avviata qualche giorno fa, dovrò attendere la fine di marzo per scoprire se sarò in grado o meno di aggiungere una nuova fonte di guadagno alla mia strategia su Splinterlands.
Con un po' di fortuna potrei essere in grado di vedere qualche piccolo risultato già dal prossimo report mensile!
