As I mentioned, I carried on reading The Avalon Cycle and have now finished it.
Comme je l'avais annoncé, j'ai donc poursuivi ma lecture du Cycle d'Avalon et je l'ai terminée.

Marion Zimmer Bradley was the principal author of the Avalon Cycle, but sadly she passed away on 25 September 1999, before the fourth volume was completed. Her friend Diana L. Paxson, also an author, therefore took over to see the publication of this fourth volume through to completion.
I noticed a difference, but I don’t think it’s down to the author’s style, even though there is certainly a slight difference in the writing. I think it’s more to do with the atmosphere and the setting in question.
The first three volumes were set mainly on the island of Avalon, in a relaxing atmosphere of contemplation and rituals, and whilst reading those first three volumes, I felt calmer; I imagined myself there and felt at ease.
This fourth volume begins in Avalon, but then we leave Avalon, only to return at the very end of the story. Well, I felt less serene, less calm, the whole time we were away from Avalon.
Marion Zimmer Bradley est l'auteure principale du Cycle d'Avalon, mais elle est malheureusement décédée, le 25 septembre 1999, avant la finalisation du 4e tome. Son amie Diana L. Paxson, également auteure, a donc pris le relais pour amener la publication de ce 4e tome à son terme.
J'ai ressenti une différence, mais je ne pense pas que ce soit lié au style de l'auteure, même s'il y a certainement une légère différence dans l'écriture. Je pense plutôt que c'est lié à l'ambiance et au lieu dont on parle.
Les 3 premiers tomes se déroulaient principalement sur l'île d'Avalon, dans une atmosphère reposante, de recueillement et de rituels et, en lisant ces 3 premiers tomes, j'étais plus calme, je m'imaginais sur place et je me sentais bien.
Ce 4e tome se déroule d'abord à Avalon, mais ensuite, on quitte Avalon pour n'y revenir qu'en toute fin d'histoire. Eh bien, j'étais moins sereine, moins calme, tout le temps qu'on passait en dehors d'Avalon.
The story focuses heavily on the battles fought by the Romans, power struggles and ambitions... but much less on the teachings of Avalon and everything related to that subject.
We didn’t really feel like we were reading the same book anymore, in fact.
The story was, all the same, quite interesting, as the footnotes provided dates and commentary on the historical characters and events.
I’m glad I read this series, as I’m very interested in the subject of Avalon, but I was a bit disappointed by this fourth volume.

Le récit parle beaucoup des batailles menées par les Romains, des luttes de pouvoir, des ambitions .. mais beaucoup moins des enseignements d'Avalon et de tout ce qui tourne autour de ce sujet.
Nous n'avions plus l'impression d'être dans le même livre, en fait.L'histoire était, tout de même, bien intéressante, puisque, grâce aux notes en bas de page, les personnages et événements historiques étaient datés et commentés.
Je suis contente d'avoir lu ce Cycle, car le sujet d'Avalon m'intéresse beaucoup, mais j'ai été quelque peu déçue par ce 4e tome.
Avez-vous aussi eu ce ressenti, si vous les avez lus ?
Pour changer de registre, je vais me plonger dans un Agatha Christie 😇
