We’re on Netflix for a new adaptation of Agatha Christie’s crime novel of the same name.
This US-British film runs for 2 hours and 7 minutes and falls into the crime thriller genre.
I’d already seen the previous version from 1978 (starring Peter Ustinov, Jane Birkin, Maggie Smith, Bette Davis, Mia Farrow, David Niven, etc.), but I couldn’t remember the plot – just that a crime took place on the ship and that, at one point, Hercule Poirot gathered everyone together in the same room.

Ce film américano-britannique dure 2h07 et se classe dans la catégorie thriller policier.
J'avais déjà vu la précédente version de 1978 (avec Peter Ustinov, Jane Birkin, Maggie Smith, Bette Davis, Mia Farrow, David Niven, ..), mais je ne me souvenais plus de l'histoire, simplement qu'un crime aurait lieu sur le bateau et qu'à un moment, Hercule Poirot réunissait tout le monde dans la même pièce.

Synopsis :
At a party, Jacqueline de Bellefort introduces her fiancé, Simon Doyle, to her friend Linnet Ridgeway, whom she asks to find Simon a job. Hercule Poirot is also at the party.
Shortly afterwards, Linnet and Simon get married and organise their honeymoon in Egypt, where they are joined by friends for a cruise on the Nile.
Stops are planned, notably to visit the temple at Abu Simbel, where a falling stone could have proved fatal.
After a pleasant evening, despite the palpable tensions, Linnet goes to bed and the following morning, her death is announced.
Hercule Poirot leads the investigation. Time is of the essence; further victims must be prevented.
Lors d'une soirée, Jacqueline de Bellefort présente son fiancé Simon Doyle à son amie Linnet Ridgeway, à qui elle demande de donner un job à Simon. Hercule Poirot est présent à cette soirée.
Peu de temps après, Linnet et Simon se marient et organisent leur voyage de noces en Egypte, où ils s'entourent d'amis le temps de la croisière sur le Nil.
Des haltes sont prévues, notamment pour visiter le temple d'Abou Simbel, où la chute d'une pierre aurait pu s'avérer mortelle.
Après une agréable soirée, malgré les tensions palpables, Linnet va se coucher et le lendemain matin, son décès est annoncé.
Hercule Poirot mène son enquête. Le temps presse, il faut éviter d'autres victimes.

The 1978 version was more faithful to the book, I think. In this version, some characters have been left out, others have been added, and the relationships between characters have been altered, …
When I read Agatha Christie’s novels, in which Hercule Poirot is the detective, I don’t find him as pretentious as he is in the film, even though he does talk about his little grey cells. This character trait makes him rather unlikable in the film.
La version de 1978 était plus fidèle au livre, il me semble. Dans cette version-ci, des personnages ont été ignorés, d'autres sont apparus, des liens entre personnes ont été modifiés, ..
Quand je lis des Agatha Christie, dont Hercule Poirot est l'enquêteur, je ne le trouve pas aussi prétentieux que dans le film, même s'il y parle de ses petites cellules grises. Ce trait de caractère le rend antipathique dans le film.

As Gal Gadot is an Israeli actress, many countries have banned the screening of this film (just as they did with Wonder Woman).
Rose Leslie has a small role. She is best known for her role in Game of Thrones (as the Wildling Ygritte) and married Kit Harrington (Jon Snow in GoT) in 2018, having been in a relationship with him since 2012. They have two children, a boy and a girl.
I’d already seen Kenneth Branagh play Hercule Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express and I preferred that version to this one.
I also prefer it when the film is more faithful to the novel.

J'avais déjà vu Kenneth Branagh interpréter Hercule Poirot dans le Crime de l'Orient-Express et j'avais préféré à celui-ci.
Je préfère aussi quand le film est plus fidèle au roman.
