Hello film lovers, /Bonjour les cinéphiles,

We’re on Netflix watching this Italian series that I’d added to my list months ago.

It consists of seven episodes and falls into the categories of supernatural drama, thriller and horror.

Nous sommes sur Netflix pour regarder cette série italienne que j'avais mise dans ma liste depuis longtemps.

Elle se compose de 7 épisodes et se classe dans les catégories drame surnaturel, thriller et horreur.

Synopsis :

Anna returns to her home village of Curon, in northern Italy, 17 years after leaving it.

She had moved to Milan with her boyfriend, and they raised their children, the fraternal twins Daria and Mauro.

She wants to escape her life in Milan, so she takes her children to meet their grandfather Thomas, who still lives in the family hotel. She also enrols them at the local secondary school.

Strange things are happening in this valley; their surname seems to bring bad luck.

Anna used to have nightmares when she was young, before she left home. It’s said that her mum committed suicide, but Anna has a different memory… her dad said it was just in her nightmares and that her mum had indeed taken her own life, but she doesn’t believe it – it seemed so real, yet at the same time, it was very strange.

As they were returning from school, their mother had disappeared; she’d apparently said she was going for a walk in the mountains, to be on her own for a while.
Her children set out to look for her, with the help of other students with whom they’d formed bonds.

Elle s'était installée à Milan avec son petit-ami et ils ont élevé leurs enfants, des faux-jumeaux, Daria et Mauro.

Elle veut fuir sa vie à Milan et emmène donc ses enfants rencontrer leur grand-père Thomas qui vit toujours dans l'hôtel familial. Elle les inscrit, d'ailleurs, au lycée de la ville.

Des choses étranges se passent dans cette vallée, leur nom de famille semble porter malheur.

Anna faisait des cauchemars quand elle était jeune, avant de quitter le foyer. Il se raconte que sa maman s'est suicidée, mais Anna a un autre souvenir .. son père a dit que c'était dans ses cauchemars et que sa maman s'était bien suicidée, mais elle n'y croit pas, ça avait l'air tellement réel, mais, en même temps, c'était très étrange.

Alors qu'ils rentrent de l'école, leur mère a disparu, elle aurait dit qu'elle allait se promener dans la montagne, pour se retrouver un peu seul.
Ses enfants se sont mis à sa recherche, avec l'aide d'autres étudiants avec qui ils ont tissé des liens.

My opinion and a few facts /Mon avis et petites infos :

The village of Curon (Graun im Vinschgau) is situated in northern Italy. In 1950, the village was blown up and flooded to create an artificial lake. Only the bell tower of the 14th-century church still rises above the water. All the villagers were relocated to the new village built higher up on the mountainside. The cemetery was also moved.

Legend has it that in winter, you can hear the bells ringing, even though they were removed before the flooding.

This series drew on the mysterious atmosphere created by this artificial lake and added supernatural elements.

The basic idea is interesting, but I don't think it was used very well.

Netflix has not, in fact, renewed it for a second series.

Le village de Curon (Graun im Vinschgau) existe, dans le Nord de l'Italie. En 1950, ce village a été détruit à l'explosif et submergé pour créer un lac artificiel. Seul le clocher de l'église du XIVe siècle dépasse encore. Tous les villageois ont été déplacés dans le nouveau village construit plus haut sur le flanc de la montagne. Le cimetière a également été déplacé.

La légende raconte qu'en hiver, on peut entendre les cloches sonner, alors que celles-ci ont été retirées avant l'inondation.

Cette série a utilisé l'atmosphère mystérieuse créée par ce lac artificiel et a ajouté des notes surnaturelles.

L'idée de base est un sujet intéressant, mais je trouve qu'il n'a pas été bien utilisé.

Netflix ne l'a d'ailleurs pas renouvelé pour une 2e saison.

It’s not a series I’ll remember for long, even though I’ve actually seen that bell tower rising out of the artificial lake in real life, whilst travelling to a holiday destination further south in Italy when I was much younger, and it made quite an impression on me.

Ce n'est pas une série dont je me souviendrai longtemps, même si j'ai déjà vu en vrai ce clocher qui dépasse du lac artificiel, en me rendant sur un lieu de vacances, plus bas en Italie, quand j'étais bien plus jeune et cela m'avait marqué.
