Synopsis :
The police in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands, are currently recruiting for their listening unit.
Roman Mertens has been blind since childhood following an accident. He attended a specialist boarding school for the visually impaired in Belgium, near Antwerp, where his parents live.
He found a job in a call center near Rotterdam, but it isn’t very exciting.
When he heard the police recruitment advert, he decided to apply.
It is well known that when one of our senses is impaired, another or others become heightened, and this is clearly the case for Roman, which will be very useful to the investigators.

Roman Mertens est aveugle depuis son enfance, suite à un accident. Il suivra sa scolarité dans un internat spécialisé pour les malvoyants, en Belgique, près d'Anvers, où vivent ses parents.
Il a trouvé un boulot dans un centre d'appels, près de Rotterdam, mais ce n'est pas passionnant.
Quand il entend le message de recrutement de la police, il décide de s'y présenter.C'est connu, quand un de nos sens est déficient, un autre ou les autres s'amplifient, et c'est clairement le cas pour Roman, ce qui sera bien utile aux enquêteurs.
My opinion and a few facts /Mon avis et petites infos :
I really enjoyed it. I must say I’m a fan of the ‘Sherlock’ style, where so much importance is placed on the details. It was well done, with objects and faces changing as Roman recognises a sound or someone’s voice, or hears a specific engine noise or information provided by the people he’s talking to.
The lead actor, Bart Kelchtermans, who plays Roman, became visually impaired four years before filming began and was not an actor but a sales engineer. This is his first role and he’s doing really well. In the summer of 2026, he’ll have to undergo a major (and risky) operation, but he has no choice. We wish him all the best.
J'ai bien aimé. Il faut dire que j'apprécie le style "Sherlock" où on donne de l'importance aux détails. C'était bien fait, avec les objets et visages qui se modifient au fur et à mesure que Roman reconnaît un bruit ou la voix d'une personne ou qu'il entend un moteur spécifique ou des infos données par les interlocuteurs.
L'acteur principal, Bart Kelchtermans, qui joue Roman, est devenu malvoyant 4 ans avant le tournage et n'était pas acteur mais ingénieur commercial. C'est son premier rôle et il se débrouille vraiment bien. A l'été 2026, il devra subir une lourde opération (risquée), mais il n'a pas le choix. Nous lui souhaitons que tout se passera au mieux.
A second series has not yet been confirmed, although the show is already proving very popular in the Netherlands and Flanders (the Flemish part of Belgium).
The series was filmed in and around Rotterdam.

Une 2e saison n'est pas encore confirmée, même si le succès aux Pays-Bas et en Flandre (partie flamande de la Belgique) est déjà bien présent.
La série a été tournée à Rotterdam et aux alentours.

I didn’t know these actors, but most of them are Dutch and we don’t watch many Dutch films or series. We’re starting to watch Belgian series and films, so we’ll gradually start recognising the actors, but not straight away.

Je ne connaissais pas ces acteurs, mais la plupart sont hollandais et nous regardons peu de films/séries hollandais. Nous commençons à regarder des séries/films belges, donc, progressivement, nous reconnaîtrons les interprètes, mais pas tout de suite.
