Two months ago, I told you about the progress I was making in finalising my first novel, for which I was looking for a publisher.

The publishing house in the Verviers region to which I sent my manuscript, and which was supposed to get back to me in December 2025, has not yet responded.

Il y a 2 mois, je vous parlais des avancées dans la finalisation de l'écriture de mon premier roman, pour lequel j'étais en recherche d'une maison d'édition.

La maison d'édition de la région verviétoise à laquelle j'ai envoyé mon manuscrit et qui aurait dû me donner des nouvelles en décembre 2025, n'a pas encore donné suite.

In the meantime, I met some people who organise the Mons Book Fair, and they advised me to self-publish my book. This will allow me to have it in my hands, but above all to promote it and start selling it.

I was convinced that I would have to be self-employed in order to self-publish... but apparently not. However, there are certain conditions that must be met, such as not exceeding a certain total annual sales amount, it must remain occasional, and the income must be declared to the tax authorities.

Entre temps, j'ai rencontré des personnes qui s'occupent du Salon du Livre de Mons et qui m'ont conseillé de déjà publier mon livre en autoédition. Cela me permettra de l'avoir en main, mais surtout de le promouvoir et commencer à le vendre.

J'étais persuadée d'être obligée d'avoir le statut d'indépendante pour m'autoéditer .. apparemment non. Il y a toutefois des conditions à respecter, par exemple ne pas dépasser un certain montant total annuel de ventes, il faut que cela reste occasionnel et il faut déclarer ces revenus aux impôts.

I am continuing to search for publishers, but I can no longer afford to wait for a hypothetical response.

I have therefore begun the process of self-publishing with Livre en Papier (a printing company specialising in self-publishing in Belgium), as I had originally planned to do. I am waiting for their confirmation that everything is in order.

Je poursuis la recherche de maisons d'édition, mais je ne peux plus me permettre d'attendre une réponse hypothétique.

J'ai donc entamé les démarches pour m'autoéditer, auprès du Livre en Papier (imprimerie spécialisée dans l'autoédition en Belgique), comme je pensais le faire au départ. J'attends leur confirmation que tout est en ordre.

Normally, the turnaround time between sending the file and printing is one week, if everything is in order. The holiday season is a break for the printing company, so they need to make up for lost time.

I hope that my book can be printed towards the end of January 2026 and that many people will be interested in it.

En temps normal, le délai entre l'envoi du dossier et l'impression est d'une semaine, si tout est en ordre. La période des fêtes est un moment de pause pour l'imprimerie et il faut donc qu'ils récupèrent ce délai.

J'espère que mon livre pourra être imprimé vers la fin de ce mois de janvier 2026 et que de nombreuses personnes seront intéressées.

I finished the final proofreading during the first weekend of the year, harmonising the layout and adding copyright information, among other things. Proofreading my book did me a lot of good, even though I cry every time I read it. I can't wait to share it and get some initial feedback.

It is only available in French at the moment.

J'ai terminé la dernière relecture pendant le premier weekend de l'année, en harmonisant la mise en page et en ajoutant les informations de droits d'auteur, notamment. Relire mon livre m'a fait beaucoup de bien, même si je pleure à chaque fois. J'ai hâte de le partager et d'avoir les premiers retours.

Il n'est disponible qu'en français, pour le moment.

I am already working on a second novel, but it is still in the very early stages. It is not a sequel to the first one. It will be in a different genre and probably aimed at a different audience.

I will let you know as soon as my book is in print.

Je travaille déjà sur un 2e roman, mais il n'en est qu'au tout début. Ce n'est pas la suite du premier. Ce sera dans un autre registre et probablement pour un autre public.
