My first time attending a book fair /Ma première participation à un salon du livre EN /FR

Hello book lovers, /Bonjour chers lecteurs,

As you already know, I published my first novel at the end of January 2026 and it has been available on Kindle since the end of February 2026.

It is still only available in French and is not yet on Kobo.

I haven’t had the chance to get started on the English translation yet, but it won’t be long now.
As for Kobo, we’re gathering information, because we’re a bit worried that it might be too easy to download or hack the system. If any of you have any information on this, we’d love to hear it 😇.

Je n'ai pas encore eu l'occasion de m'atteler à la traduction en anglais, mais cela ne saurait tarder.
Pour Kobo, nous prenons nos informations, parce que nous craignons un peu qu'il ne soit trop facile de le télécharger ou de pirater le système. Si certains d'entre vous ont des infos à ce sujet, nous sommes preneurs 😇.

I took part in two book-signing sessions, which helped me improve the way I presented my book both verbally and physically, and prepared me for this first book fair.

This was the first ‘Belgian Literature Fair’, held on the weekend of 6 and 7 June 2026 at the Palais des Congrès in Mons. There were well over a hundred exhibitors in attendance, including publishing houses.

J'ai fait 2 séances de dédicace qui ont permis d'améliorer ma présentation verbale et physique de mon livre, ce qui m'a préparée à ce premier salon du livre.

Il s'agissait du premier "Salon de la littérature belge", organisé le weekend des 6 et 7 juin 2026, au Palais des Congrès de Mons. Il y avait une bonne centaine d'exposants présents, dont des maisons d'édition.

It was a wonderful, enriching experience, where we met some interesting people.
There are still things we need to improve, of course; we’re still learning.

On the other side of the pillar was a publishing house, with whom we had a chance to chat and whom we’ll be contacting again very soon.

At these events, there are also short talks and book-signing sessions with better-known authors. I wasn’t able to attend these talks myself as I was at my stand, but Ithara was able to attend an interview with Thomas Gunzig and chat with him.
Thomas Gunzig is a Belgian author (black humour, social satire, absurdity, irony, offbeat imagination), who is very approachable and friendly.

C'était une belle expérience, enrichissante, où nous avons fait des rencontres intéressantes.
Nous avons encore des choses à améliorer, bien sûr, nous sommes toujours en phase d'apprentissage.

De l'autre côté du pilier se trouvait une maison d'édition, avec laquelle nous avons pu échanger et que nous recontacterons très prochainement.

Lors de ces événements, il y a aussi des petites conférences et des séances de dédicace d'auteurs plus connus. Je n'ai pas pu assister moi-même à ces conférences puisque j'étais à mon stand, mais Ithara a pu assister à une interview de Thomas Gunzig et a pu interagir avec celui-ci.
Thomas Gunzig est un auteur belge (humour noir, satire sociale, absurdité, ironie, imaginaire décalé), très accessible et sympathique.

For the time being, the next book fair I’ll be attending is the “Salon du livre de Wallonie”, which will take place at Lotto Mons Expo on the weekend of 26 and 27 September 2026.

In the meantime, we’ll be making a few more improvements to our stand, such as adding a tablecloth and tweaking the promotional poster slightly. We’ll also sort out the administrative side of things to make sure everything is done properly.

I’ll also be holding a few book-signing sessions to meet potential readers.

And then, of course, I’m continuing to write my second novel (and I’m already thinking about my third, but shhh).

Pour le moment, le prochain salon du livre auquel je participerai sera le "Salon du livre de Wallonie", qui aura lieu au Lotto Mons Expo, le weekend des 26 et 27 septembre 2026.

D'ici là, nous allons améliorer encore un peu notre présentation, en prévoyant une nappe et en modifiant un rien l'affiche descriptive. Nous allons aussi nous renseigner du côté administratif pour que tout soit fait comme il faut.

Je ferai également l'une ou l'autre séance de dédicace pour aller à la rencontre de lecteurs potentiels.

Et puis, évidemment, je continue à écrire mon deuxième roman (et je réfléchis déjà à mon troisième, mais chuuuut).

Events like this disrupt our daily routine, but I really enjoyed it. It wasn’t a particularly noisy atmosphere, unlike other kinds of fairs, and that suited me fine as I don’t like noise.

We were still pretty exhausted after that literary weekend, though, and it took us a few days to recover.

I’m glad I was able to attend a reasonably sized fair before the one in September, which will be four times bigger.

Entry is free for visitors; they’re just asked to register online in advance.

I hope to be able to tell you soon about the latest developments, book signings, translations, and so on.

Ce genre d'événement perturbe notre quotidien, mais cela m'a beaucoup plu. Ce n'était pas une atmosphère très bruyante, comme le sont d'autres genres de salons, et cela me convenait puisque je n'aime pas le bruit.

Nous étions tout de même bien épuisés après ce weekend littéraire dont nous nous sommes remis en quelques jours.

Je suis contente d'avoir pu participer à un salon de taille raisonnable avant de participer à celui de septembre qui sera 4 fois plus grand.

L'entrée est gratuite pour les visiteurs, il leur est juste demandé de s'inscrire en ligne, au préalable.

J'espère pouvoir vous raconter rapidement les prochaines avancées, séances de dédicace, traductions, etc.
