Our Third Eggplant Harvest from the Garden

Happy Friday Hivers!

Honestly, growing eggplant wasn’t even part of our plan for the garden. My mother and I don’t eat eggplant at all, only my brother does. But our neighbor gave us some seedlings, so we accepted them, because as they say, refusing an offer can be considered impolite.

So we planted it, and eventually it grew very fast and started bearing fruit. It became the first vegetable in our garden to produce a harvest. I still remember our first harvest, we got five pieces, and we didn’t sell them; instead, we cooked them for my brother. During the second harvest, we sold them, and in our most recent harvest, we sold them again.

I honestly didn’t expect that we had so many neighbors who like eggplant. When we started planting it, we never imagined that it would bear this much fruit or that there would be so many people willing to buy it.

In fact, this morning, my high school classmate already reserved some for the next harvest. I told my mother that we should continue planting eggplant because even though we don’t eat it, we already have plenty of buyers.

We also sell it cheaper than the market. While the market price is around ₱60 per kilo, we only sell ours for ₱50 per kilo.

This experience taught us that sometimes unexpected things in the garden can turn into small blessings. What started as an unplanned crop has now become a source of extra income, and it also reminds us to always be open to opportunities, even those we didn’t originally intend to take.

Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
