Happy Thursday Hivers!
I still remember when I was a fresh college graduate. I was incredibly motivated to get a job because I genuinely wanted to work in HR. I enjoyed conducting counseling sessions, guiding people, and helping employees grow. Of course, when you're new to a profession, you're eager to learn. You absorb every bit of knowledge you can from others, constantly seeking opportunities to improve yourself. That eagerness to learn was what fueled my motivation during my early years as an HR professional.
However, after several years, my motivation gradually started to fade. Being assigned to the same tasks year after year, without much rotation or new challenges, eventually led to burnout. Thinking that a change of environment might be the cure, I transferred to another company. I believed that a new workplace would somehow inject fresh energy into my system and reignite my passion. But after a few months, I found myself losing motivation once again.
I became tired of the office routine. It felt like I had been doing the same work for years, and I no longer saw myself growing. Slowly, boredom consumed me. I no longer looked forward to going to work, my patience wore thin, and there came a point when I had to ask myself some difficult questions: Am I still happy? Am I still learning? Am I still growing? The answers led me to make a tough decision, I tendered my resignation because I was no longer happy and had completely lost the motivation to continue.

When I was younger, gardening was one of my favorite hobbies, although I mostly grew flowers back then. I loved the feeling of planting something and seeing even the smallest signs of progress the next day. There was something deeply satisfying about watching a plant grow under your care. As I got older, I became interested in growing vegetables, and the experience was even more rewarding. Seeing a vegetable plant bloom and eventually bear fruit gives me an incredible sense of accomplishment. It may seem like a small thing to others, but to me, every harvest feels like a meaningful achievement.
That is why I am so happy with where I am today. Growing plants gives me a sense of purpose, excitement, and fulfillment that I had been missing for years. Unlike my office work, where the days often felt repetitive, gardening constantly reminds me that growth takes time, patience, and care, and the rewards are always worth the wait.
Like what happened today. We recently harvested vegetables that we planted a few months ago, and the feeling is simply different. There is something deeply rewarding about planting, nurturing, and eventually harvesting the fruits of your labor. Every harvest reminds me that my efforts have paid off. It also helps reduce our household expenses since we no longer need to buy as many vegetables from the market.
More importantly, gardening brings me peace of mind. It is far less stressful compared to working in an office. As an HR professional, most of my days were spent dealing with problems, resolving conflicts, handling complaints, and addressing concerns. While those responsibilities were important, they could also be mentally and emotionally draining. In the garden, however, the challenges are different. Instead of solving people's problems, I focus on helping plants grow, and that process brings me a sense of calm and fulfillment.
Looking back, I have realized that success is not always about climbing the corporate ladder or holding a particular position. Sometimes, it is about finding what genuinely makes you happy and gives you a sense of purpose. For me, that happiness comes from watching a tiny seed grow into something productive, nourishing, and valuable. Every new leaf, flower, and harvest serves as a reminder that growth happens when we invest our time, patience, and care into the things we love.
At the end of the day, I am grateful for my journey in HR because it taught me valuable lessons and helped shape who I am today. But I am equally grateful for discovering the joy of growing my own food. While a career can provide a living, a passion can provide fulfillment. And right now, every harvest reminds me that sometimes the simplest things in life bring the greatest happiness.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
