On a recent trip to Pramaoy for some vegetable and fruit shopping, my wife and I were stopped on the highway by a sweet potato accident.
Before my wife and I left the mountain on our trusty Honda SuperCub 90, ChairWoman Meow angrily meowed at me from the bathroom. I came in to discover the water level in the bucket was too low for her to get a drink, so I put some in the dipper and let have a drink. For whatever reason she no longer drinks water from her water bowl, the bathroom barrel is now the preferred source.
It's very rare to see a traffic jam in the middle of nowhere on our highway that dead ends at the Thai border. Usually a flash flood is the reason for such a situation, but in this case we noticed around 50 or 60 lorries and many cars backed up for nearly a kilometer. We drove to the front on our moto to find a lorry stuck on the road, but that wasn't the only problem. A hatch had also broke on the trailer, spilling a heap of sweet potatoes into the middle of the road.
Most folks were standing around and waiting patiently while a handful of people relocated the yams. We noticed that they were waiting for an excavator to tug the lorry backwards and get it unstuck, so we knew it was still going to take a while before we'd be making forward progress. It was at this time my wife said I could use my supreme riding skills to descend a steep part of the shoulder and climb a driveway to get back on the highway.
At the time I didn't think what I did was amazing, but the Khmers all gasped and shrieked when I went down the steep hill. Nobody else followed my path, so we found ourselves on the other side of the traffic jam with the highway to ourselves. The drivers on the other side were all happy to see us, and most of them begin getting in their cars after we passed, little did they know it was probably still gonna be another 10 minutes. Well, I used to race motorcross in my teenage years, so I guess these old skills came in handy on this day.

In the car it looks so full of cargo that you have to go slowly in the direction you are going, and you and your wife are very careful when the truck is in an emergency like this, your cat is very cute, he is good at everything, I laughed at his behavior. well done, hope you have a nice day sir @justinparke
The roads are always full of surprises here, but I think our cat provides us with even more, haha.
Not animal hater, but drinking from my bathroom container is unacceptable for me.
Hmm... Now I have another new swear word to use. If I come across any suprise event, I'm gonna shou holy sweet potatoes
Well, before we had a sink I would've forbid Meow to drink from our barrel. Now that we have a sink we use the water from the tap to brush our teeth. Anything can become a swear word if you say it with enough force, "yucking yams!!"
Your wife and you were stopped on the highway by a sweet potato accident. Traffic jams in these areas are a common occurrence anyway, best of luck to you.
I wouldn't say traffic jams are common in the middle of the countryside, but if there was one the source is never traffic. Usually it is something like someone hit a water buffalo or cow with a a car.
Cambodia looks like the Philippines! the aura and the environment look similar! Have a safe trio with your fam sir @justinparke . Have a great day ahead.
I would guess the weather is similar in some places, but we certainly don't have the tropical breeze here. Thanks for stopping by.
Well, I am glad your ol' skills never left you. You did so well with helping the cat out and getting things sorted out on the highway.
Never a dull moment here in Cambodia, haha.
Hehe, that's right. I can feel it.
it is a heavy traffic street, it looks like the economy of cambodia growing, look at those trucks, they are fully loaded
The economy growing indeed, but I hate to say only a small percent seem to be benefitting. Corruption makes so much money disappear here.
Not a nice incident probably all potatoes fall out 😋 free potatoes for everyone
I don't know what deal was worked out, but I assume those helping toss yams received a payment in yams.
Yay! 🤗
