πŸ˜… Monkey-B Earns Her Fire πŸ”₯ & We Catch Butterflies Emerging From Their Cocoons πŸ¦‹

The weather is still chilly here, but a brief window of warm-ish weather allowed Monkey-B to shuttle some firewood to the new firepit.

Wooden Pyramids & Bamboo Chopsticks πŸ₯’

Β  Β  Β During our few hours of decent weather today I split some firewood and Monkey-B wanted to shuttle the wheelbarrow. I built a pyramid as I usually do, biggest pieces on the bottom and smaller pieces on the top. I narrow it a bit towards the top also, and when the fire is lit from the top it can burn several hours. This fire lasted 6 hours after lighting with no maintenance whatsoever, and Monkey-B made some chopsticks from bamboo to entertain herself.

πŸ› Bye-Bye Cocoons πŸ¦‹

Β  Β  Β Just after I lit the fire Srey-Yuu came running from the bathroom to tell Pov and I that butterflies are emerging from the cocoons attached to the ceiling. I darted over to the bathroom to have a look and snap some pics for a Hive post because that is pretty much the purpose of nearly every photo I take nowadays.

Β  Β  Β I've been watching these cocoons since the caterpillars began hanging, and I was really curious what the butterflies were going to look like. We indeed caught them at the perfect time, exiting the cocoons and unfurling their wings. This extreme wind and cold weather isn't friendly for a first flight, but I'm sure by now they are no longer in their hanging upside down.

Β  Β  Β My wife is the more serious insect photographer, so I stepped back and let her do her thing. She's got a slightly better camera on her phone too, so she can handle the macro shots where as I can only take my phone so close to subjects before things get blurry.

Firewood Thief πŸͺ΅

Β  Β  Β I found this cheeky woman stealing wood from the corner of my pyramid to use for boiling water to take a hot dipper shower. I scolded her and made big threats, and as you can see in the above photo, she is absolutely terrified of me πŸ˜‰. Well, that pretty much does it for today. School registration starts tomorrow, so the four of us will be headed to town for the process and school supplies, etc.

Hi there. It's good that you have free firewoods out there. Actually, cooking with firewoods especially rice is better hence I also have my dirty kitchen and a tub at the back in case of emergency when we run out of gas and water shortage. I only gather dead branches and twigs at the back and save them for the "rainy day".
Butterflies are sometimes annoying because the caterpillars eat the leaves in my garden but that's their nature.😏

It is nice to have a backup kitchen like you've mentioned. Food cooked with wood tastes much better, but often times we are in a hurry and use our gas stove. Soon though we will build a better outdoor kitchen, and I hope to make a much more chef-friendly woodstove setup.

Funny isn't it, caterpillars cause so much damage, and some people think they aren't beautiful, but their more beautiful butterfly selves love hanging out around poop and pee πŸ˜‚.

very good post with various pictures and descriptions. it seems that monkey B is just learning to start a fire. but you have to be careful, because fire can burn your hands.
It is a very good opportunity to photograph the cocoons and these opportunities are very rare to find.

Yes, you're right, Monkey-B likes to play with fire, but she still doesn't understand all of the dangers. We all felt lucky to have witnessed the butterflies emerging, a very rare and lucky opportunity.

I try my best, haha, but often times in life, things don't go as planned, and that's when having a good sense of humor is helpful.

I can see that Monkey B always enjoys what she's doing. I appreciate her for being happy even in small things. Watching the butterfly going out is so amazing.

Monkey-B sure makes everything more enjoyable, and no matter the situation, whenever I look at her, she is almost always smiling. So lucky to capture the butterflies emerging, although I lost my patience and wasn't able to witness the first flight.

She's even beautiful because of that.☺️

I scolded her very playfully, and from the look on her face, it's clear I am not a serious threat in this household 😁. Thank you for the kind words, it brought me a smile.

Only a few times in my life have I ever witnessed butterflies emerging from their cocoons, absolutely magical.

The right time when in the photo the cocoon is coming out of the egg.

I don't know why so many caterpillars chose our bathroom because there is no veggies or plants for them to eat near there. It was magical to see them emerge from cocoons, and especially to see the soft wings begin to harden and become ready for flight.
