As an avid pedestrian explorer, few things captivate me more than ambling unfamiliar cityscapes after dark, chasing strands of cafes chatter and window glows. A few nights back while based in bustling Ho Chi Minh City, restlessness drove me to trace a looping route along the Saigon River’s snaking tributaries, camera in hand. While over three hours of improvised navigation left weary feet, the festive spirit discovered along the way delivered ample rewards to my lens and holiday sensibilities.

Setting out from my lodgings without fixed agenda, I rambled towards glittering streams of motorbikes downtown where google suggested walking paths connected various neighborhoods along the murky channel.

Diverse restaurant scents mingled with curbside karaoke videos blaring as locals crowded out to dine and idle evenings away. My mind imagined the histories each had witnessed from their patio viewpoints as decades passed gazing at river traffic floating by.

Soon the more commercial blocks gave way to cozier residential enclaves with inviting cafe facades still emitting the day's final steamy aromas inside. Twinkle lights reflecting in puddles announced the Christmas season through many blocks, sprouting tinseled shapes and glowing silhouettes from countless second story windows. The merry vibe lifted my mood while street food sizzled all around at makeshift carts. An quite modern but classic SE Asian tableaux!
