Hunt for Cheap Breakfast at The Car Free Day Event in My City

How are you today ? I hope and pray, we are all always given health and also happiness in living this life. I am also very happy, to finally be given the time and opportunity to return to share my stories and experiences in the ASEAN Hive Community.

Anyway, what do friends do on Sundays? Normally, Sundays or weekends are the moments that many people have been waiting for. The majority of people, such as students and workers, carry out activities from Monday to Friday or Saturday and get a day off on Sunday. Therefore, everyone always looks forward to holidays or Sundays.

There are many ways for people to spending their time on Sundays, such as going on excursions, sports, shopping or going to the mall. Last Sunday, my wife and I went to one of the weekly events in my city, Medan City, namely car free day. Every Sunday morning, Medan City always holds a car free day event in the downtown area of Medan City. So, car free day is an event for city residents, where several roads will be conditioned to be impassable for motorized vehicles and used as public facilities such as sports or recreational facilities.

I don't know if other countries also have car free days. However, I understand the reasons why my city government holds this event regularly. I've discussed it, if the car free day event every Sunday morning is proof that the government has failed to make or create public spaces that are cheap, safe and free for its citizens.

As a citizen of Medan City, I really see that our city lacks public space or sports facilities that are free and usable. Some of the available fields are owned by companies or private companies, where to get the sports facilities we have to pay. So, if a city often holds car free day events, you can be sure that the city is lacking public space or public parks.

So, back to the topic. The location of the car free day in Medan City is around the Merdeka Square area of Medan City. One interesting thing from this car free day event, we will also see many companies, government agencies, or brands promoting at this event. So, after jogging and running, usually my wife and I will look around or look for breakfast around this place.

Sharia Economic Festival

I saw an event that was attended by many people, namely the Sumatra Regional Sharia Economic Festival. There are various activities at this festival, such as a food product bazaar from Medan City local SMEs, door prizes, socialization of the Sharia economy and also talk shows. I'm not interested in the discussion or the event, but I'm very interested in seeing a promo.

At this event, it turned out that there was a food and beverage flash sale from the food bazaar event, each registered food product was valued at Rp. 2023 (0.13 USD) and each food outlet carries only about 100 orders. One condition for participating in the food bazaar flashsale is a payment system using QRIS or digital payment. So, as people who love discounts or price cuts, my wife and I hunted for breakfast at this place.

We queued at many bazaar booths, in total we both got almost 8 food or beverage products. We get dimsum, fried noodles, cassava chips, pudding, chicken porridge, herbs and various other menus. The two of us were like pirates plundering ships and getting to treasures. Seeing how much food we got, I think we can share it with the family at home.

Many people who follow this event, like us too. After the food bazaar flash sale was over. I saw several people, especially teenagers sitting and lining up on the sidewalk while eating and drinking from the food they bought for IDR 2023 (0.13 USD). After participating in this event, my wife and I returned home.

We jogged about 7 km in that morning sunday and also got plenty of food. I feel like I won poker that Sunday morning.
