Today marks a very special day for the people of Tacurong City as we celebrated the 25th Talakudong Festival, one of the most colorful and meaningful events in our city’s history. Talakudong, which means headgear in Hiligaynon, is a festival that pays tribute to the city’s rich culture and heritage. It is a time when Tacurongnons come together to honor our traditions, showcase our talents, and celebrate the spirit of unity that binds us as a community.

Early this morning, I made my way to the city plaza to support our Barangay for the much-awaited Talakudong contest. The plaza was already alive with vibrant colors, lively music, and the sounds of beating drums that could heard from afar. This is the highlight of celebration, where schools and barangays compete to showcase their creativity, discipline and teamwork through street dancing and drum performances. Despite the heat of the sun, everyone stayed to cheer for their representatives, showing unwavering support and barangay pride.

One of the most captivating parts of the festival is the use of drums. The sounds of the drums sets the rhythm for the dancers, energizes the crowd, and creates an atmosphere of excitement and celebration. Each beat tells a story of Tacurong’s resilience, culture and joy. The dancers, dressed in colorful costumes with their traditional talakudong headgear, move in perfect synchronization with the drumbeats, making the entire performance a feast for the eyes and ears.

This year’s celebration was made even more memorable with the presence of the Vice President of the Republic of the Philippines, who graced the event as the guest speaker. Her message was inspiring, encouraging Tacurongnons to continue upholding their tradition and to work together for the progress and peace in the community. Her presence truly made the 25th anniversary of the Talakudong Festival extra special.

As I captured moments of today’s event and edited my pictures using Canva, I felt proud to be part of this celebration. Festivals like Talakudong are not just about colorful costumes and lively music, they are about preserving our heritage, celebrating our identity and inspiring future generations to continue the traditions.
