Greetings Hivers, @justinparke here with a brand new ASEAN Hive Community Challenge for you all, π©βπ³ Bizarre Foods π¦ͺ, a pretty self-explanatory challenge.
Β Β Β There are a lot of bizarre foods around the world, and what might seem like a normal food to you might be a weird food to another person. When I explain how cheese is made to my Cambodian friends, they are always shocked and disgusted, but it's a perfectly normal food in many parts of the world. Even here in SE Asia, tempeh is perfectly normal in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore, but here in Cambodia it would be considered a very bizarre food, especially considering how it is produced.
Β Β Β Durian is a food normal all over SE Asia, but strange in other countries, and of course there are local versions too. Perhaps your area has a strange fruit/vegetable not found elsewhere, or even a local dish that might be considered strange to some people. In some parts of the USA, people eat pickled eggs, and I always thought this was very strange as a kid, and of course the Philippines has balut.
Β Β Β Let's see your strange and bizarre foods my fellow ASEAN Hivers. I recently tried cardamom shoots for the first time, and I must say it was like eating Tiger Balm, not a joy. Even though I cook with cardamom seeds very often, I didn't know the plant itself was also edible, but after trying it, I not question it's edibility ππ.
Β Β Β Wow!!! This was one of the most culturally insightful challenges so far, and those of you from mixed heritage families have access to the most proverbs all, able to pull from multiple knowledge banks. I really enjoyed reading every single entry, and was reminded how small the world is, we have many different ways of saying the same thing. As hard as it was, I narrowed things down to 3 outstanding entries, so let's go ahead and have a look.
Β Β Β @Ecency is as a sponsor of our weekly challenges thanks to the lovely @melinda010100, who reached out to me with an offer of`1,000 Ecency points per month. With roughly 4 challenges a month, I've set aside 250 points for each challenge in addition to the usual post beneficiary rewards.
Β Β Β Delegators are valued members of our community, so each @asean.hive curation post (other than the main weekly delegator raffle post) features a mini delegator raffle in the footer, with the winner receiving 15% post beneficiary.
congratulations to the winners, you guys have shown the best for all of us, I really enjoyed the three selected posts.
I can really appreciate the meaning of the proverbs of each country shown here, and of course each country has different proverbs, according to the customs and culture of a particular country.
The fruit that doesn't fall far from the tree, yes I think it's one of the most popular proverbs in Indonesia, and it's one of the proverbs that is often spoken for people who want to have a family, that when they want a child, then of course the good or bad of a child who will be born, depends on his parents, especially his mother and father.
the reality that happens in the family is like that, if parents want a good child, then of course the father and mother must show good behavior, especially in front of their children.
children are a reflection of their parents, and if we see how the behavior and ethics of a child are, then we no longer need to ask how their parents behave.
I remember the message from my parents in the past, if you want your child not to smoke, then you should not smoke, or at least never smoke in front of him, and if you want your child to be a philanthropist, then show that you are someone who likes to help others.
so I think the proverb is very touching and will be very useful if we live and practice it in everyday life....
I also found a very gentle and touching proverb that came from the Philippines...
If someone throws a stone at you, then respond with bread.
I think it is a proverb that is advocated by all religions, where we know that all religions practice their adherents to forgive each other and behave gently, and do not condone vengeance.
that proverb made me realize that there is really no point in repaying someone's evil with evil, if evil must be repaid with evil then we can no longer recognize which people are good and who are bad, and actually there are no bad people, there are only lost into the wrong path, and they have not found the right path, and God will send someone to point them to the right path.
the proverb that is popular in the Philippines, even I remember my late father's message, my father once told me, if you want to live happily in this world, then do the simple thing, that is, never insult other people if you don't want to. insulted, never berate others if you don't want to be insulted, and even if you are insulted and washed by others then you don't retaliate, accept sincerely what they do, when they insult you they are actually insulting their Lord, because of what they did. The despicable thing that is in you is God's creation, which is actually very perfect.
These two proverbs really touch my heart.
Oh yes I think the challenge for next week is no less exciting, show your strange food, and in your country.
I think that is actually something that is not so difficult to show, because every day in our kitchen we are always served a variety of foods that are actually strange to ourselves, and also to other people.
I totally agree with what @justinparke said, that what is strange for us is not necessarily strange for others, and what is considered strange for others is not necessarily strange for us.
I have a little weirdness in my children, my son really doesn't like durian, just to smell it he can't stand it, he even vomits, and that's weird for me, because me, my wife and two younger siblings, really like durian.
My daughter thinks that cooking boiled long beans is something strange and she is afraid to eat it, she doesn't even want to smell the aroma, even though according to her mother and I also think that long beans are the most delicious food.
so I think it will be very unique to find various food idiosyncrasies in this part of the world, with a variety of unique, unique, and funny stories of course.
Oh yes my dear friend @justinparke, how many of my friends are active members of the Asean hive they already have the Asian HIVe logo written on their account name there, they think you have given it to them, and if you don't mind I also want you to make it one for me.
Funny how each person has their own tastes, my whole family didn't eat onions when I was young, but I've always loved onions. A bizarre food I used to eat when I was young was a fried cow brain sandwich, but now Mad Cow Disease has made this food illegal I think, not sure.
The proverbs challenge was so much fun, I learned a lot from reading all the entries. Every now and then I make a post where VIPs can claim a banner, but it's been about or month or two since the last post. Here is a custom one for you my friend. You can can copy the markdown code below instead for easier use, it already has a hyperlink to your blog.

First of all . Wow.. this is an amazing section.. hahahha.. yea.. the fermented Tempe is a really bizare food.. especially if the process is seen. Cambodians don't eat cheese? Congrats to @coloringiship @tegoshei and @abizahid. Pickled eggs. Wow.. first time I've heard that.. the most bizzare here is the sushi made of a type of edible worm. Hahahha.. a bowl of soup made of inerts. I literally have a bit of difficulty smelling it. But my wife loves it.
Cheese is now popular in Cambodia because of pizza and cheeseburgers, but still Cambodians don't buy it and keep it in the home, but these western foods are common in some restaurants. Mostly people here don't know how cheese is made, and even when I learned as a kid, I thought it to be really strange.
Worm sushi, now that is a unique food, haha.
Hhahaha.. wow.. I guess.. it's hard to resist Western food... I guess.. the worm sushi can be filled with cheese. This is an edible type of worm found in Borneo that can be eaten raw but I've never tried one. I just don't want the juice to burst in my mouth.. =) hahaha.. Wow.. Imagine a Westernized Cambodia.. =) That's amazing.

Yeaahh..congratulations to @coloringiship as the first winner and @tegoshei as the second winner, your work is very good. And also congratulations to myself as the third winner hehe π
thank you very much @asean.hive and also @justinparke for choosing us as the winner of challenge #24 π
And let's take on the challenge next week πͺ
Thank you and congratulations to you too!
My pleasure, I feel a bit wiser after learning some new proverbs. I really enjoyed this challenge.
Another fun contest topic! π
Cheers, and of course thanks for your sponsorship of this weekly challenge.
When it comes to durians, I always ask my parents to process durians with sticky rice. Because I really like to eat durian. Congratulations to the selected friends who have displayed beautiful pictures
Durian sticky rice is common in Cambodia too, my wife loves it very much.
yes friends sticky rice is also very good to eat and I also really like it.
Yaaaay!!! Thanks a lot and congrats to the winners. :)
I can name some bizarre food off the top of my head, but I don't have pictures... since I don't normally eat them. waaaa~ T_T
Same for me, because I live in such an isolated place and I'm vegan, most of the bizarre edibles are in the towns. We tried cardamom shoots recently, I wish I had taken more pics, but I'll never eat them again, I would describe them as a bit like bamboo shoots, but the flavor of Tiger Balm, not pleasant.
I think balut is probably the most famous weird food from your country, here the Cambodians like fertilized duck eggs, but not as developed as balut.
Yay!!! Congratulations to all of the winners!
You deserved it all.
And now for the following subject.
Another food hunt will begin. My personal favourite.
Yum yum!
Thank you, I am very curious to see what ASEAN Hivers will dish up for this challenge.
Hello @justinparke
I was unable to complete the task since I was somewhat delayed.
I'm hopeful the next challenge will be set.
Congratulations to the winners, this is a good time for all of you, keep the spirit and keep trying to show the best, so do I,
Thank you for your support sister, you're an awesome ASEAN Hiver.
It's an honor for me to be in this community
Thank you for selecting my entry and congrats to the other winners! Bizarre food? Ooohhh...I have plenty of ideas for that π
Exciting, looking forward to it.....
I am sure some of the food we have here is strange is not just to you, but to me to as the local.
There is a soup in Thailand and parts of Cambodian made from the poop of a newborn cow, never seen it, but I know many people that say it's a real thing, and that's about the most bizarre food I've heard of in this part of the world.
Congrats on the winners.
Gotta join this challenge. π
Btw, I am curious on how do I get those member badges?
A lot of seemingly normal foods here in SE Asia would be considered bizarre in other parts of the world, and there are plenty of foods within in SE Asia that are considered strange by people from here too.
The custom footer and/or community title/badges are according to delegation. At 50 HP, you are a Bronze VIP, 100HP+ a Silver, 500HP+ a Gold, 1,000HP+ a Platinum, and 10,000HP+ a Diamond VIP. I can offer bigger upvotes to those who delegate greater amounts, of course as long as certain standards of quality are maintained, but you have no problem with that because you're a talented Hiver already.
I noticed your 25 HP delegation, I designated you as a Member, and I do that for some delegators under 50 HP that maintain genuine engagement and quality content. The titles also serve to help other ASEAN Hivers know who supports the community and at what level, a bit of playful gamification is always fun π.
πππ
Ohh. I see now.
Most communities verify their members using Discord but I can't find it here that's why I posted the question. π
I also like your work and decided to support you (and the ASEAN community) by delegating a bit of my HP. I currently have low HP and I already delegated a major portion of it to other communities so I only shared 25HP. But it seems I needed to update it for the sweet Bronze VIP member title. π
Thanks a lot for responding to my query.

if you like durian sata. but it depends on how to process the durian. congrats to the winner.
Durian is strange, and many people even here in SE Asia don't like it. Usually it's the smell that bothers people, but I enjoy the smell of durian, I just don't like the taste of it.
yes friend. but if I both like. either from the taste or smell
Congratulations to friends who won this week, may we always be successful in all activities
