Hello, you wonderful souls - and all those who feel called to be one...
New garden offers have been rolling in all week, and by now I can hardly keep up with them. At the beginning of the season, I only had a tiny piece of land available! Of course, I'm keeping my own project and not trading it for anything. But I am helping two elderly people who are in poor health - for a few weeks, even though I will soon be walking with a walking stick. But God provides me with all the strength I need and so I start a new garden project to grow vegetables.

The surface was so rock-hard that I felt like I was doing prison labour. Sawing nettle roots and tilling the soil took all my energy this week. I've only just cleared a quarter of my garden of nettle roots - the rest will be waiting for me in the coming weeks. An asparagus raised bed is being created on one of the beds, which I have already planted in a tub at home. As asparagus can only be harvested from the second year onwards, this will be a long-term, perennial place for green organic asparagus. The seeds already look fascinating - almost like spider legs, from which each individual asparagus will later sprout. Simply brilliant!

The rooted square will also be home to two exceptional candidates: Jerusalem artichokes and artichokes. However, this is only a future project - unfortunately it is too late for this year.

But on the day of my ‘convict labour’ there was an immediate reward! As I was leaving the grounds, I asked a lady the name of the beautiful flowers at the top of her fence. I thought they were so beautiful and wanted to get some for myself. Her answer? ‘I don't know! But wait, I'll dig you up a cutting.’ She ran off, grabbed a spade and asked me for a plastic bag - which I happened to have with me! After a quick splash of water, she handed me the plant. I was just super happy and planted it in my garden that evening.
The plant is called silver bugleweed and I think it's really marvellous! It spreads by itself and is a beautiful ground cover that I particularly appreciate because it suppresses weeds.

Flowers & plants for the garden
Speaking of flowers and plants: I'll show you what I spent the rest of my HBD on. Most of them went on the trip to Graz, but I spent a few more in the garden centre - thanks to your voting mana! Thank you so much for that!
I was looking for plants for a shady area where there is hardly any sun. At the same time, I wanted something that looked really pretty. My choice fell on the Hosta ‘Earth Angel’ in green-yellow. I'm already a huge fan - it looks great and brings life to the dark corner! It's probably spreading a little, but mainly getting bushier. That's why I'm going to get two more so they're not alone.

The chicken project begins!
The flower boxes are already nicely arranged, but the most important thing: I've started to clear a path to the chicken coop! In the process, I'm discovering more and more floor tiles that form a hidden path. It all needs to be cleaned up properly before the chickens can move in - I want to create a nice, cosy area for them.
I'm currently watching a lot of chicken videos - I'm really into the chicken game! 😆 I didn't realise that chickens have sooo many natural enemies. You really have to think about everything - from the air space to the laying chamber, everything has to fit perfectly. Fortunately, the chicken coop has already been built, but I'm going to build additional protection for the animals so that they don't have to flee into the coop in panic when danger threatens. After all, they can't all fit through the door at once.

As you can see, there's still a lot to do! The really great things probably won't happen until next year, but at least this way I know what I'm doing all this for.
Well then, that's the keyword again - so it's time to get to work!

Hallo, ihr wundervollen Seelen – und all jene, die sich berufen fühlen, eine zu sein…
Die ganze Woche über trudeln neue Gartenangebote ein, und mittlerweile kann ich mich vor ihnen kaum noch retten. Dabei hatte ich zu Beginn der Saison nur ein winziges Stück Fläche zur Verfügung! Natürlich behalte ich mein eigenes Projekt und tausche es gegen nichts ein. Aber ich helfe zwei älteren Menschen, die gesundheitlich schwer angeschlagen sind – für einige Wochen, auch wenn ich bald am Krückstock laufe. Doch Gott versorgt mich mit all der Kraft, die ich brauche, und so starte ich in ein neues Gartenprojekt, um Gemüse anzubauen.
Die Fläche war so knüppelhart, dass ich mich gefühlt habe, als würde ich Sträflingsarbeit verrichten. Das Sägen von Brennnesselwurzeln und die Bodenbearbeitung haben mich diese Woche all meine Kraft gekostet. Dabei habe ich gerade einmal ein Viertel meines Gartens von Brennnesselwurzeln befreit – der Rest wartet in den kommenden Wochen auf mich. Auf einem der Beete entsteht ein Spargelhochbeet, den ich bereits in einen Kübel zu Hause gepflanzt habe. Da Spargel erst ab dem zweiten Jahr geerntet werden kann, wird dies ein langfristiger, mehrjähriger Platz für grünen Bio-Spargel. Die Saat sieht schon faszinierend aus – fast wie Spinnenbeine, aus denen später jeder einzelne Spargel hervorsprießen wird. Einfach genial!

Der verwurzelte Platz wird auch Heimat für zwei außergewöhnliche Kandidaten: Topinambur und Artischocken. Das ist allerdings erst ein Zukunftsprojekt – für dieses Jahr kommt es leider zu spät.
Doch am Tag meiner „Sträflingsarbeit“ gab es direkt eine Belohnung! Als ich das Gelände verlassen wollte, fragte ich eine Dame nach dem Namen der wunderschönen Blumen am Anfang ihres Zauns. Ich fand sie so schön und wollte mir auch welche besorgen. Ihre Antwort? „Weiß ich nicht! Aber warte, ich buddle dir einen Ableger aus.“ Sie rannte los, nahm einen Spaten und fragte mich nach einer Plastiktüte – die ich zufällig dabei hatte! Nach einem schnellen Wasserguss überreichte sie mir die Pflanze. Ich war einfach nur mega happy und pflanzte sie noch am Abend in meinen Garten.
Die Pflanze heißt Silber-Hornkraut, und ich finde sie wirklich prächtig! Sie verbreitet sich von selbst und ist ein wunderschöner Bodendecker, den ich besonders schätze, weil er Unkraut unterdrückt.

Blumen & Pflanzen für den Garten
Da wir gerade bei Blumen und Pflanzen sind: Ich zeige euch, wofür ich meine restlichen HBD ausgegeben habe. Die meisten gingen für die Reise nach Graz drauf, aber ein paar habe ich noch ins Gartencenter investiert – dank eures Voting-Mana! Vielen Dank dafür!
Ich suchte nach Pflanzen für einen schattigen Bereich, wo kaum Sonne hinkommt. Gleichzeitig sollte es etwas sein, das wirklich hübsch aussieht. Meine Wahl fiel auf die Hosta 'Earth Angel' in Grün-Gelb. Ich bin jetzt schon ein riesiger Fan – sie sieht toll aus und bringt Leben in das dunkle Eck! Sie verbreitet sich wohl ein wenig, aber wird hauptsächlich buschiger. Deshalb werde ich mir noch zwei weitere holen, damit sie nicht alleine sind.

Das Hühnerprojekt beginnt!
Die Blumenkästen sind bereits hübsch hergerichtet, aber das Wichtigste: Ich habe angefangen, mir den Weg zum Hühnerstall freizukämpfen! Dabei entdecke ich immer mehr Bodenplatten, die einen versteckten Weg darstellen. Das alles muss noch richtig sauber gemacht werden, bevor die Hühner einziehen können – ich will ihnen einen schönen, gemütlichen Bereich schaffen.
Aktuell schaue ich mir viele Hühnervideos an – ich bin richtig im Hühner-Game drin! 😆 Ich wusste gar nicht, dass Hühner sooo viele natürliche Feinde haben. Man muss wirklich an alles denken – vom Luftraum bis zur Legekammer muss alles perfekt passen. Glücklicherweise wurde der Hühnerstall bereits gebaut, aber ich werde noch einen zusätzlichen Schutz für die Tiere errichten, damit sie nicht panisch in den Stall flüchten müssen, wenn Gefahr droht. Schließlich passen nicht alle auf einmal durch die Tür.

Ihr seht: Es gibt noch eine Menge zu tun! Wahrscheinlich passieren die richtig tollen Dinge erst nächstes Jahr, aber so weiß ich wenigstens, wofür ich all das mache.
Nun denn, das ist auch wieder das Stichwort – also geht es bald ans Ackern!
