Our Compost Box and Transferring Tomato seedlings + Garden Update!

Earlier this afternoon, my parents and I worked on something in the garden. In one of my previous updates, I mentioned that my father built a compost box in the garden so we can use it as fertilizer for our plants in the future. We usually add fruit or vegetable peelings, among other things.

This time, we're adding some banana sheaths or trunks to it.

It is said that "bani sa saging" (banana sheaths) are good for compost because they're rich in potassium and moisture. As for the latter, it contains an amount of water that, when mixed with dry materials, will prevent the compost pile from becoming smelly or soggy.

We also asked some young boys in the neighborhood to collect and dry some cow manure to be added to our compost or whenever we plant something. We usually pound them into small pieces and add them to the soil to make it healthier.

Then, we added some soil as well as cow manure... We left some space for future stuff that we are going to include in it. And this volume would decrease over time, so we'd be adding more soil and cow manure again in the coming days. Then, we can use this as fertilizer... It's natural and healthy for our plants!

Do you remember our round plant box? This is what it looks like now. We planted some water spinach and camote (sweet potato) tops... They're growing really well... It's even possible to harvest some sweet potato from this plant box in the future... I'm kind of excited for that.

I hope they grow more and multiply so we can have some delicious dishes after harvesting them. I especially like the water spinach, especially when my mom cooks it as adobo or as an ingredient for sinigang. It would be awesome to see this plant box filled with them.

Then, my mom and I decided to replant a couple of tomato seedlings in this tire, so we added some soil and cow manure and mixed them well.

We have several tomato seedlings growing beside our lemongrass, which we planted in our tire. Sometimes, we just scatter seeds in plant boxes, and then we'd see sprouts turn into seedlings... then we transfer them.

We decided to transfer just a couple of seedlings, so when they grow, they can still fit in the makeshift plant pot, which is the tire.

Our garden is slowly transforming, and we are happy about the progress we're seeing. We still have some seeds that need to be planted, so maybe in the coming days or weeks, I'll get to update this garden blog again.

The compost box is near the jackfruit tree, so when I looked up, the jackfruit we're waiting to ripen is still growing pretty well. There are four of them, and we are all so curious and excited to taste them. We all hope they're sweet! So far, most of the fruits we tried harvesting here have been so delicious and of nice quality.

Also, while I was looking up, I noticed these four new jackfruits growing. Can you spot them? They're still very tiny, but it's crazy how they're staying in the same area. I hope the branch won't give out and make them fall when they're bigger. We'll need more support. hahaha
